Yesterday after the winds died down Ben and I decided to take the montero out for a little exploring. Went to the construction site. I was driving over what looked to be normal sand next to a sand hill when I started to sink.

Honest to god this looked like dry hardpacked sand but in fact just under the surface is was totally saturated with water. The montero sunk to its frame while it was just sitting there.

I can't even explain it. We had like 8 people helping (several of which go offroading all the time) and every one of them said they had never seen anything like that before in there life.

Long story short, it took a lifted chevy diesel truck and a f150 king ranch on 25's linked together to pull me out, after breaking a tow strap. Took about 5 hours. Thanks for everyones help.

Pics will follow if I can get them from greg.

Yeah dude. It was at the base of one of those huge dirt piles so the dirt was not hard packed and it was waterlogged beyond belief. If you ran across it you would barely sink but when you stopped you would sink like crazy. I could just stand there and wiggle my toes and I'd let myself sink to my knee caps in seconds.

It was entertaining to just walk around in it, which we did for about 5 hours. :rofl1:

yeah, that right there is a reason why you should walk it before you drive it....but then again if we all did that where would the fun be of digging yourself out for a few hours

I don't think walking on it would have done anything in this situation. It actually seemed quite firm to walk on. It wasn't a problem until you started to wiggle a little (or spin in a car) and then it just completely turned to mush and sucked you in.

It was actually much crazier before you guys there. It dried out a bit by then. Scott, tell greg to post those pics up!

...basically

I think everyone who came to help had nothing better to do and we had fun playing in the quick sand and got some good laughs.

it was a snatch rope, not a tow strap. They are built for quick full out pulls, not the same as the tow strap. But i guess...
