REDLINE
September 17th, 2008, 09:49 AM
Nice build so far. I have a B20z Block that now has a wrist pin knock. So after all we spent and effort I put into the job, I now have to go back in there and re-build.
So I was thinking of getting a B18C block. But hard to find. Eventually I would like to get my DB1 back on the road with about 300WHP Boosting. Anything above that is not needed. To me that is. My DB1 will be a daily driven Teg with A/C again. So I can go to shows with the kids and to hang outs for fun.
Good luck with that monster build. Hope to see more pics soon.

its a .70 compressor and a .82 turbine. this is a well matched turbo for this setup the motor is a 1.9 L and revs out to 9500 rpm. a .63 turbine will make good mid range power but die off up top.

Buid question for you Tommy:
DO you run your bearing clearences on a boosted motor on the loose side? What size bearings did you order for this build? Did you get Honda size bearings or ACL's?
amimaxima
November 5th, 2008, 10:25 PM
i ordered standard acl racing bearings and when I spec the motor I like to run it a little bit looser according to what the bearings spec out at that will tell me if i need to order a few more acl bearings
DjNando
November 6th, 2008, 09:12 AM
Okay, so what do you do when the standard size bearing is a little bit too tight or? DO you just micro polish the crank a little bit or order a different size bearing? If ordering a different size bearing, how does sizes go with ACL's? Does ACL offer specific sizes like Honda bearings do? I have only ever used Honda bearings so I wanted to know how this works.
amimaxima
November 6th, 2008, 09:20 AM
if its too tight just spit on it lol j.k if its too tight according to what it specs out at and what I decide to run the motor at I then call acl and order a specific bearing. The last motor I build was a low comp b16 I used standard acl bearings and it spec'd out perfect. sometimes you get lucky sometimes you have to play around with it
DjNando
November 6th, 2008, 09:24 AM
Hmmm. I like the way you role. Detailed. Do you think ACL's are better than Honda bearings? Also, is there a significant difference in regular ACL's and Race ACL's? And I assume the way you spec this is by plastiguage correct?
amimaxima
November 6th, 2008, 09:35 AM
yup I use plastiguage. alot of engine builders like oem honda bearings but I like to use acl race bearings due to the material they are made out of. but if im doing a oem rebuild i'll use honda bearings.

the bulid looks like it is coming together nicely but i would have rethought a few thing that you went with such as the fuel pressure regulator , the stock fuel lines are only good for around 570whp , and what pump are you going to run on the car , and the wastegatre might be something that is going to hold you back from making the power , and eagle makes 2 different set of rods one has the big bolts which i believe are 3/8 which they say are good for 900hp and the smaller ones that are good for 650hp , and as far as spending all that money all i got to say it cost money to go fast i have twice that amount in my car, and i don't think that the car you are building is going to be daily driven and no matter what traction bars and tires you put on there you will not get traction on the street , i got full-race traction bars and a big 245/45/17 nitto 555r drag radial on mine and traction sucksand my car is sitting at 500whp and only 300ft lbs of torque

you really don't have to go that big a 8an in and a 6an return works just fine and will support up to 800 whp just fine, the tial 44mm wastegate is a good choice another one to look at would be the turbosmart , and i would look into a aeromotive fuel pressure regulater they work really good

getting rid of wheel hop helps traction.
and no, some companies dont engineer in the proper geometry and the bars will bind and cause some major problems. i would only buy full race or l-con's latest version.

thats the biggest drag radial that i can fit on the car with 17" wheels the tire is equal to a 26x10x17 slick and at the time i had a choice of using my 17" rims or 14" wheels and the nitto drag radial for the 14" wheels is to small now i have 15" so the next time i order tires i am going to go with a mickey thompson drag radial with a bigger side wall

yea Josh I agree that for the most part a B is only good for about 250 but you take a 300hp turbo vs. a 250-260 NA and take it down the track. Its gonna be a pretty good race. Not only that but like you said "K" all motor I have seen whip up alot of Turbo cars. One I recently read on, which I showed Ray, was the G23 Build. All motor puts out alittle more than a K. Low 12 sec. on street tires.

G23??? You mean H23??? If so I agree, I have been trying to tell ray about the H and F motors for a while now. They have way bigger bores and strokes to little B series. Its definately the alternative to the K motor without spending 6k for the swap.

The F23 + K pistons + H22 head. The guy who initially did it named his swap the G23. Its on Honda Tech. Sweet ass build all motor. He took his build step by step and at first did it with all O.E parts then stepped it up with aftermarket and is putting out some nasty numbers.
