ok so i went to the site, i know when it is. I've been to an event to watch, i tried to find a rule book section... no luck. Anyhow , if you guys would be so kind as to let me know how your first a.c. experience went down , what to expect ,what to do,how it went what noob mistakes you made , basically a rundown. The loud car thing worries me , and also the whole tech inspection thing. Maybe i have too many quesions and should just shoot myself in the face , but like they say in the marines the only dumb question is the one that isn't asked.

to better give you an idea of why i'm scared of the loudness, tech and rulebook is because my car is a 78' Z with an rb and running open downpipe and sketchy overall "look of unsafeness".

yeah they are cracking down on noise hard. all of the louder cars from last month (including myself) have to be more quiet this month or we will not be able to race. if you are running open down pipe i am 99% sure you are too loud.

Only way is to go out there and find out.

They really dont have as many rules as a regular SCCA event... since its not an SCCA event. But your car will have to be safe... working brakes, battery held down, not leaking fluids, all the lug nuts, good tires...

Make sure you clean everything out of your car. Like aero said, make sure you're battery is tied down TIGHT or they'll freak out. Get there pretty early Saturday, by 8am, so you can get registered, through tech, and into the novice school. As long as you don't beat on it before getting out to novice school I think you'll be able to make through the class and to your first run on the normal course before anyone says anything to you. By then you'll be almost done anyway.

*Edit- ok, aparently there isn't going to be a novice school this month, so nevermind that whole theory.

my battery is good , brakes good, fluid leaks none , tires...gotta get but have spare wheels with tires on them... i suppose i should just head out there. one question: if i register and i don't pass tech or my car is too loud do i get my money back?

I really don't think they kick people for being too loud but they will tell you fix it before you come back. I think some ricer integras got booted but they were excessively loud and suck at life.

When I get my external wastegate they might give me problems. I hope not though because I'm not gonna change my setup.

The jackass that runs it has a mustang so you could pretty much run open headers and it wouldn't matter.

When my car was loud I was told I couldnt drive again till my exhaust was quieter.

The car is even quieter now than last event lol, but im sure they will find something to complain about.

Mustangs get the ok though, so uncork and run ant.

You could probably run open headers and shit on one of the members faces and you'd be ok.

they said my car is "borderline" and it's not that loud from the outside at all.

every time dave says something to me i point out 3 louder cars and say im not changing shit until they have to.

I just don't understand why they don't use the stupid DB meter. Their website says "That wasn't working", well obviously they need to use a lower threshhold. It's like they're too stupid to set a reasonable limit, so instead they throw out any logic or quantitative measurement and just start randomly bitching at people they don't like. Blah.

And while I'm ranting, WTF is wrong w/ my damn numbers? I don't even know what to change on them to make them "ok". They're freakin huge, bright fuckin red, I've been using them for 2 years, and they can be read from 6 miles away. Yet, "Uhh, I don't think you're gonna be able to use those..." BLAHHH, I'm making some new ones that are fuckin 4 feet tall and bright pink.

Yeah, the loud cars that seem to go undetected by Dave, tend to be Stangs. I really he judges the volume as one might with different styles of music. Same volume of different types of music tend to be more annoying than others.

So what you're saying is that "hypothetically" if someone had a riced out integra it may be more annoying than other types of cars that are equally loud.... :stickpoke:

I guess I can agree with that. :D

Do we need to bring our own numbers? and do they really pay attention to tire preasure? Saids must be 45psi fronts and 35psi backs.

pdexta
October 30th, 2008, 03:39 PM
They have paper numbers there that you can buy for like 50 cents a piece so you don't have to worry about bringing you're own unless you really want to. The tire pressures are for your benefit, not theirs. They don't check them or care what you are running.

People drop pressure when drag racing b/c it helps strait line grip. People typically raise pressure for autocross b/c during hard cornering the tire will roll over onto the sidewall and you lose grip. It's nothing that serious or important, the numbers they gave you are just kind of a guideline as to what typically works the best. Eventually you'll figure out what you like and what works best for you, either that or you won't feel like it makes enough difference to bother with and you'll just run the same pressure that you run on the street. Don't stress over it too much, if you get a chance add a little pressure, if not then you'll be fine how it is.

i will help you out a bit if you need tire help. i have been doing this long enough to give you a good estimation on what should work good for your car. plus they have compressed air and about 95% of the people there have pressure gauges including me. so if you need help feel free to ask.
