View Full Version : RS2s HUGE price jump?

So I was looking at some prospective tires searched edge racing for 225/45/15 and RS2's come up at $104 a tire, Azenis aren't offered in that size. That seems way high to me, I swear I use to buy 245/45/16's for the S2000 at like 80 something a tire. So I check the stock tire size, 195/60/14 b/c I know they have both Azenis and RS2s. Azenis are $62 a tire, RS2s are $84.

So WTF happened? I've always seen RS2s coming in a little cheaper, or right at the Azeni price. Suddenly they've jumped up in price like 35%? Damn, that sucks. When did that happen?

Yea you're telling me, I was considering them yesterday just to see how I like them vs. the azeniz and they came out to $130 fucking dollars for 215/40/17's where the azeniz are only $98 for the same size... that's a relatively big price difference for tires that are supposed to be comparable in performance and price.

At least in your tire size you have an option between the 2. I'm stuck with the overpriced Hankooks :( I swear I would kick ass at running a tire company. I'd make some badass sizes that no one else makes.

I want 225/40/17 because i'm pretty sure they would fit and help me stay stuck in 2nd but neither one makes them so i'm stuck with the 215's so don't think you've got it worse

Off topic but does anyone know if these are any good? They look cool lol but do they perform? At 300twr I find it hard to believe they'd grip very well.

I checked some wheels that I've been eyeing for at least 6 months and they're still the same price. Pretty sure the Azenis are too. I think it's just the rs2s that are a lot higher.

I don't understand why they would kill them, unless they've got something ready as a replacement. Those things are always sold out, it's not like no one is buying um. Even at the higher price, I'm sure I'll end up getting them b/c there is no other option.

Check out the Federal 595RS-R. If anyone gets them let me know how they are - supposed to be the best tire out there at the moment but really hard to get (not that expensive, either). Tread wear is something like 140.

i just bought 2 hankook k106 radials from discounttire.com it cost 2$ more per tire than edge racing, but they didn't charge me for shipping, or tax so i saved about 28$.

k106's is usually all i get. i love them

What do you recommend? I wasn't aware there was anything better in a decent pricerange. It's not like RS2's are real hard tires or anything, they're 200 treadwear.

Azenis, Ecsta xs, and z1 would be my choices that are in the same price range.

Ur fucking up man, RS2s > anything you mentioned. I haven't owned the Z1's, but they have the same tread rating and the closest size is a 195, when I want at least 225's. I've got azenis on my car now, they're equal to the RS2s in dry but nowhere close in wet. I had Ecsta MX's (what I'm guessing you meant) on my 1st S2000 and they were a noticable step down from RS2's.

Z1's are argued better than the re01r and re01's are 180 treadwear. rs2's and the 615's are alike but id take the azenis over the kooks. The XS is a brand new tire that is on par with the azeniz.

And ratings can be deceiving. treadwear, and width is different between every manufacturer.

We can always throw my z1's on the miata...

Yeah, I know treadwear isn't always accurate. The S02's that came stock on S2000s was like 140 threadwear but performed more like a 200-220. I've got some crap tires on the new miata now, anything would be a drastic improvement for it.
