Unloaded to a 6.65@105. Not to bad, first pass in over a year, first pass on all the new pipe/suspension. I didn't launch hard and didn't turn it over 6, maybe 6500, and it went straight as a string; I could have let go of the wheel. So, we check a plug, it's still fairly fat, we've got the timing around 36-38ish, so we decide to lean it 4 sizes. Pull back up, the motor is at temp this time, I hold it at the tree till I'm against the converter, let er rip. It didn't turn up good, felt funky, slowed down to a freakin 7.05@95.

I almost couldn't get it re-fired a the timing booth - bring it back, check the timing and the freaking thing is moving around 30+ degrees! We checked it with our light and with Jay-rocks, same shit. - Well, this MSD 7AL-3 and this dizzy have given us crap before, so I'm gonna swap in our old 7AL-2.

No major complaints. Went straight, hooked decently(hooked all the power it had).

Forrest - you have a voicemail.

Well... last night was much worse. Timing issue turned out to be the "magnetically shielded" trigger wires that run from the dizzy to the box. So we loaded it and went to TNT last night. Long story short, the engine expired at the top of second, kicking #1 rod and piston through the side of the block and pan, dumping 9 quarts of oil and all the coolant in front of the slicks at around 80-90mph. I went 3 full circles plus another 90 and stopped inches short of the tower side wall(was running left lane). It went right and I took it that way, hoping to get away from the wall; everything past that was sheer luck. I knew as it was coming around the 3rd time I didn't have enough room between me and the wall to go around again, so I corrected and stood on the brakes. It stopped about 6" off the wall...probably a permanent stain in the kirkey...

Guess I got my $25 worth. - I'd rather be lucky than good anyday...

I've got 3 large pieces of the front of the block and several smaller pieces. I will also note this was a 3/4 filled hard block, so it took a hell of a hit.

rod let go. Cap/bolt failure. - Hoping to get the block work done for the 468 in the next month or two, be ready to go then. This motor was the one that was in the '68 when it crashed, so it took a pretty big hit. That may have played a part in this, we're not real sure. The motor was completely diss-assembled and everything was checked, but there's not telling for 100% certainty.

Crap happens. I got very lucky and didn't hurt the car, so we'll get it back together. Hopefully sometime in Jan, but my old man may be jobless which could put it all on hold. He's not gonna spend it until he's sure of what's going on and I'm not spending any "extra" money until I'm sure they're stable.

Anyone need a good, clean S10 pick-up? 94, less than 40k on the motor(4.3), less than 2k on the trans, flowmaster dual exit muffler(not loud or raspy), brand-new centerline wheels, less than 10k on the tires, recent re-paint(metallic blue). $2k - guess I should post a classified.

I am glad your ok bro:thumbup:
thanks fo. Oddly enough I never got scared, I was actually more angry thinking, motherf##ker do not hit the wall. I though it was trans/rear until after the 2nd circle. As it came around I tried stabbing the throttle to get it to correct and nobody was home. The banging I heard under the floor was pieces of the block ricocheting(sp?) off the ground...I actually pulled a smaller piece of the rod cap out of a rear coil-over spring.

Dad didn't even see it happen. It left really lazy, then he thought I was clicking it off a the top of second, so he turned to walk off and Robert goes "oh shit, he's spinning". Dad said he turned to see the passenger's side of the car as it was skating around towards the wall. I slid about 300' past the traps, so a total of about 500'. Really makes you think, especially as slow as I was going.
