Yeah, looks like Im going to be out of commission for awhile. We decided to go out and just take it easy, check out some trails we hadnt been on yet. Well shit happens and it happened to me today. You can see just how slow I was going. Listen close when you see the lizard on my hood.
Gonna take some time to save for new tires, pretty set on Nitto Mud Grapplers

On a side note those trails go for miles and miles.

I thought of you when I was on the trails haha I seen in another thread somewhere you mentioning that there wasnt alot of trails. These go all the way to Charlotte County. Thats why I had my son recording.
And yeah, no problem for any stock ride, I was actually enjoying the shit out of it, we were going to make it a day of just trail hunting. The worst thing I would say is some branches ( not big ) hanging out over the trails. Then again we were looking for the trails least traveled on. I will get coordinates for you.
As for the spare, yeah after today I realize this is a must. Once I got out into an area we were familiar with my brother went to my house to get the jack and we put his donut spare on. I thought that thing was going to explode haha.
What made it pop, well there was a rather small log there and either I hit it just right or the tire was defective. I wasnt moving fast at all and it ripped from the bead to the outter tire.

you're ride goes into 2wd right????? lol you do know what happens to a 4x4 in 4x4 when you put on a smaller tire than the others...BOOM to the transfer case and gear box....
no worries on the trees...its about time i got some pin stripes.
yeah, wheeling without the exact same rim and tire as a spare is a big no no. its a good way to get stranded.
did you check your tire pressures before you went out? it might have been a big combination of things....didnt see any barbed wire on the trail did you?

Yeah I know all about the tire size thing. I have a different gear set in the front so I cant use 4x4 anyway, unless Im spinning.
Seen barbed wire but it was the way out. Ill take some pics of the carnage tomorrow.

i want to go out on some trails. i found some trails out off of daniels, instead of taking a right onto fiddlesticks you make a left and all the way down the end is a gated community and before is a dirt road and a few trails break off around a couple lakes it was alright might go out sunday if anyone's in

been there done that. thats my home turf and there isnt anything there anymore. Paseo has blocked off a bunch, and so has rennesaince. thats right past slossers house. unless you wanna do a photo shoot on a trail that lasts like 100 yards, then its pointless. save your gas and go someplace else.
i've driven just about every possible area you can there, most of it is gone now like i said. and teh residents around there off the dirt road will call teh cops. so will the security guards of all of those communities.

Nope, no 4x4. When I bought the truck the guy had just replaced the rear dif with 4.10's. The front is still stock. Which kinda gives you the same deal as riding with a different sized tired. Unless of course Im spinning.

sorry to hear about your good day gone bad !! Damn that sux ! BUT I am looking to get larger tires and a small lift in the near future. Not quite as large as those.... but your pictures just made my decision on if I should get 4 tires and keep my good spare or spring for 5 tires......

blazer 5 tires is a must for our cars. and you don't need anything close to 35s on a rover, plus you'd wanna run bigger axles if you got that big to avoid snapping them...

Yes Five tires and wheels is a must if you wheel often. Lesson learned on my part.
I was really worried about that tire popping myself, drove REAL slow on the way home. Luckily I live about a mile from where we go into the woods.
And unless you are going into the mud you dont really need too high a lift and big tires. I like to find the deep stuff, thats why I want the big lift and tires.
AminalPlanet
December 7th, 2008, 11:43 AM
you need to get that 4x4 set back up again and get yourself a detroit in the rear
2" lift and 33's would do a rover plenty.
i just looked at the spot on the map, looks like alot of fun little trails. charlotte county is full of stuff like that. i'm gonna add it to the local spots sticky

I've got a couple loose 33's laying around, but the only 35's I have are my RVT's and I wasn't planning on parting with them just yet.
- Look into the Kumho KL71 Road Venture M/T- Very aggressive tread design but even height lugs so as not to "chew" down the road.
I won't run BFG's on anything. They're junk. (I worked at a tire store for a few years, many experiences)

Yeah dude, the truck came with those tires. Otherwise there isnt a chance in hell it'd have them on.
Ill check into the Kumhos.

Did a quick search on the Kumho and it looks like one of those more wheel than tire types. That and a 32 is largest I can get with a 15" wheel.
Looks nice though.

Hadn't though about 15" wheels, seems most everyone has 16+ inchers anymore. I've been planning 18x9's and 35x12.5's for the burban, but I may stick with 33's, as I don't really use the truck off-road other than to tow the wheelers out somewhere. I need 17+ inch wheels to clear the brakes 14" disc brakes I'm going to run.
Personally, I'll never run any BFG off-road tire. The compounding of the a/t's sucks donkey balls. I've actually seen the good glue compounds roll the inner rubber up, seperating it from the cords (doing a patch job). Out of two sets that I ran, none could hold balance for more than a week(1000+ miles) and they didn't really have good bite on any surface. I think the best I got was 28k miles. I can get that out of mud tires so wtf? - This was all on vehicles with really good shocks/alignment/etc. I'm very meticulous when it comes to vehicle maintenace.
I've got a low mileage(all mud/trail) set of 35x12.5x15 wild-country RTV's on 6-lug 15x10 black wagon wheels. I was going to put them on the 'burban while dialing the driveline in (before the brake swap), but I might part with them. - I only ran them for the maybe 10 trips I took my toy truck out before selling it, next to no highway.

I'll have to get a pic when I get home, can't sem to find them with the same tread pattern anymore doing a google search. - Like I said, I hadn't really planned on selling them, but I would entertain the idea. I could use the money for other things and I'm really starting to think about keeping the burban on 33's and sticking with a 3-4" lift.
I've got two 33" graound hawgs on 15x8 6-lug white wagons as well. I had them listed on CL for $60 for the pair. They've been holding air for over a year in my garage, about 1/4-3/8 tread left (probably 1/4" middle, 3/8" or better towards sides) . Would make great spares for some of you guys looking. Make me an offer.
I've got a 33" bfg M/T as well, it's the only one of 3 with tread and not split. No wheel(s).

sorry man, just threw out a couple 31x10.5's a couple weeks ago because I was tired of them sitting around. Had about 5/16 tread left, would have made good spares.
When I got my first K5 blazer the previous owner had trashed the front gears running 31's on the front and 33's on the back due to the full-time 208 case. Both the ring and pinion gears were completely stripped. - F* paying for a flat bed, a couple wrenches can drop a ds in a matter of minutes.
