I made a couple passes in a friends 01 GT at BMP's Runday Sunday today.
The car has minimal mods for power.
N/X wet kit jetted for a 100 shot. .
JLT CAI
O/R X pipe
SLP LM1 cat back
TR6 plugs
Stock tune (used sct tuner to raise rev limit, turn off MIL, and cal speedo only))
4.10 gears
Lakewood struts and shocks
4 cyl ft springs
Zoom Clutch
Weld Draglites and slicks (I bolted mine on the car)
A couple medium sized stickers worth atleast 5HP each and a big one that has to be worth 10:tongue:

I did not reach the goal of running a high eleven, but I got pretty damn close. I wish I had a little more seat time in it and was able to make some more passses to get the feel for the right tire pressure. BUT, the place was packed with well over 200 cars and bikes and we sat in the staging lanes for HOURS, between runs:ugh2: I usually run 13lbs in the slicks on my 96 and I have gotten a 1.43 60 FT.

I probably should have tried 14lbs on this car. It bit hard on the initial launch then had a slight loss of momentum (I cant call it a bog) and recoverd quickly. The passes felt very good. I shifted my ususal quick shifts but did not powershift it (was a little concerened with the clutch). I knew it was a strong run due to having to kill the spray a little before the traps (It has a window switch, but I don't trust it).

I wanted to make an N/A pass and see if it had a 12 in it (which I am almost positive that it did).

There are a few locals that the owner had been told that he would be lucky if the car hit a high 12 on the spray and that there is no way that his car would be able to pull the front tires:
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c22/mpe331lx/demellopulltire.jpg
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c22/mpe331lx/demello46100shot.jpg

The Car obviously has the potential to run an 11. The next time I run it, I am going to try my best to get the 60FT down to a a 1.6 , which should put it in the 11.7-11.8 range. If not a 1.7 should allow me to atleast hit an 11.99999.

BTW, like almost any car that I run at the track, I pulled the passenger and rear seat out for a little weight savings;)

x2 - I'm not a TR member. I don't live up there so I've never seen much reason to be on there.

...other than his thoughts on moly vs steel tubing I've thought phil was a decent guy....;)

I got kicked off the track in my 96 and it has pretty much been sitting in my driveway in race trim waiting for one of the local boyz to get his shit together...Cough...Stric....Cough....tly...ahem... Buisi....cough....ness.

So I've been having fun getting some good times out of other peoples cars.

I've been daily driving the Camaro since the last time I took the 96 to the track, and the 03 Cobra is going back together soon, so I can go with a full race set up in the 96.:SolidStraight:

What are the plans with the 03? Haven't seen that car in about 2 years.

why no tune on it? i figured a 100 dry shot is a bit big for no tune

Teksid aluminum block, Manley pro billit rods, CP pistons, Kellogg 4340 crank, ported heads, custom cams, built 4r70W, mach1 ecm (to control the trans) and a big Centri blower (prpbably an F1a or F1C)

why no tune on it? i figured a 100 dry shot is a bit big for no tune

N/X wet kit. The stock tune is very mild, see my reply on n2s.

Here is a shitty vid of the 12.1 pass:http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=1wwlLQf3YzQ"]YouTube
I hate runday sundays because they dont show the times!
BTW, the car in the other lane is 89supermod, it has a blown 4.6 2v and some spray running 9s

Mild steel= heavy ass shit!:D
Warning - long post, since we just had another thread about this I'm gonna go ahead and look up the exact weights and write-it up.

NHRA requires 1-5/8 .134 wall seamless steel tubing or it's equivalent. According to S&W, .083 wall moly is an equivalent strength.
The materials weigh the same, but since moly is "stronger" you are allowed a thinner wall thickenss, thus the weight loss.

http://www.alro.com/DATACatalog/007%20Tubing%20&%20Pipe.pdf#page=15
Straight from Alro metals website: 1-5/8 .134 wall(10 gauge) DOM tubing weighs 2.134 #'s per foot. 1-5/8 .083 wall(14 gauge) weighs 1.367 #'s per foot.

An 8-point cage has approximately 35' of tubing(allowing 12' for the main hoop, 5 for the cross bar, 5 for each door bar and 4 for each rear kicker)

Do the math, barely over a 25# difference. When the cage/material costs twice as much and it cost twice as much to install, is it really worth it in the real world? -Plus the fact that the thinner, stronger(more brittle) material actually wears out.....

- Sorry man, just had to give you some shit.

Built the 'maro for your ol' lady and now you're driving it? That's gotten me in trouble before.....

Nice times. I wouldn't consider a 100 shot a minimal power mod though lol

I guess that depends on what you are used to driving;)

I just think 100 HP and even more TQ on top of bolt-ons is pretty significant lol.

I was up there for Thursday night T-n-T. Got a 01 GT with a 100 shot on street tires and stock gears and ran a 12.79 @ 110.44 with a 60' time of 2.08. I really need gears and some tires. Very nice runs gives me something to look forward to.

what did the owner run on spray

He only made the one pass (which I believe was only his second time taking the car down the track ever)

He was going to run it after my last pass, but they closed the staging lanes. With a little practice, he should be able to get a low 13 out of it N/A, and a mid 12 with the 100 shot.(I'm pretty sure I can get it in the 12's N/A and in the 11's on the jug, we'll see.)

I believe it's not how someone else can drive your car, its how you drive your car that counts.

I believe it's not how someone else can drive your car, its how you drive your car that counts.

It is how you drive your own car that counts. But he still has a 12 second car with the potential to run 11s. He just needs to get a chance to try and wring the times out of the car.

I used this as an example to Strictly Buisiness on another forum:

If I owned a 6 second race car and a had a race team (crew chief, techs, driver etc), and did not drive the car. My driver made the 6 second passes. Does that mean that the car is not a 6 second car?
