I have a 90 CRX Si, and I just put a y8 head onto my d16 block. I still haven't converted to obd1 to enable to Vtec (no money, damned economy), and I have a code 9. I read that has something to do with the Cylinder Position sensor or something to that effect, and one of the common "cures" for the problem is switching two wires on the distributor.

When I opened up the distributor, there was a mass of copper wires all shredded and twisted up inside. Quite a mess... so my friend pulled them out and cleaned the dizzy off with some CRC Electric Parts Cleaner. I'm still getting a code 9, and the car jumps and sputters fairly often while driving, but not anywhere near as bad before we pulled out the wire-mess and cleaned it.

Two questions...

What wires have to be switched, and how do you go about switching them?

If I do this, is it a permanent fix, or would I be better off getting a new dizzy anyways?

Excuse the ignorance, I'm really not that good with cars yet. Still in the learning process. And I know this isn't a CRX-specific community, but I figured I'd give it a shot.

You best go see someone who knows hondas well. I would get the manual and see what wires go where then go from there on switching them around.

Crx's are alittle more difficult than say an EG, being obd0 isn't the most common. OBD1 and everyone would know what your talking about.

I am pretty sure thats a dizzy problem and one that is only easily fixed by getting a new dizzy. You can search the cyp sensor but you wont get much help other than people telling you to replace dizzy..

Well, do you think it'd hurt the car any to drive around how it is for two weeks? I'm converting to Vtec then, may as well just buy a y8 dizzy then instead of an a6 now and a y8 later.

why wouldn't a vtec dizzy work on it now?

Cause it needs the Vtec computer to operate properly, the Vtec computer only works in obd1, etc.

That's what I was told, anyways.

It might just get worse and stop running period. Not to familier with that exact code but dizzy are pissy one minute they will work then they are crap the next so. But do what you have to do. I would throw an obd1 vtec one on there. It will be fine you just wont have vtec.

Yeah, it's annoying the hell out of me. Yesterday it was fine, then today it'd give a good jump at 2800 RPMs in first gear so every stop light/sign was a pain in the ass.

Y8 dizzy on order, screw it.
