I am replacing my lower control arms on my 99 F150 and I ran into a bit of a problem. On the driver side the bolt that holds the control arm to the frame wont come out. the one towards the back of the truck, the one to the front came out just fine. The bolt moves about 1/8th" and spins, I have hit that thing with a 8lb sledge and nothing happens lol. I did the other side no problems. Shit just wont budge. Any ideas to why it wont come out. Ill take a picture tomorrow morning, or if i feel like going downstairs tonight.

rust or is their weight tweaking so that it can't move? I would say wd-40 before you go to bed then try in the a.m. get a hammer drill with the right size socket or use a cheater bar.

there isnt any weight on it, and i wd40 it earlier. I have done everything possible, that I can think of, I dont think rust is the problem, the truck has hardly any rust on it, and the other 3 bolts had no rust. I cant hurt the bolt cause I need it to put the new control arms on.

I would say just try the breaker bar or get a hammer ratchet gun. If it breaks im sure you can pick one up at any local store.. You can try that or leave it and never use the truck again.lol.

The threads inside the hole are getting stuck on the washer you see in the first picture, I pretty sure of it. If you look at the bolt near the head, there are threads and they are strip and those where what i was getting stuck on before.

How many times has your car been down as well,
I blew head gasket #1, shredded timing belt, caught fire, lower timing pulley, and head gasket #2. So five times first two my fault should of just rebuilt engine in the first place. Second two were part/design failures. And Last one was my fault for buying a cheap head gasket and not getting my head shaved down. Considering its a 21 year old car and a 24 year old engine, that I beat the shit out of and don't really do any maintenance to.

Take all weight off the control arm and then use a drift to tap it out, sounds like its just coming out crooked..

there is no weight on it i can move it freely to the threads. I can put it all the way back in and pull it out to that point.

Ohh and I am replacing them because I want to not because anything was broken, the ball joints are shot but it still works fine. The only Major thing that was ever replaced on this truck was the A/C.

Well this is the problem the width of the bolt is 11.5mm wide at the threads it is 12mm wide, the washers hole is 11.5mm wide. That is my problem, I dont know how that washer made it on that bolt, I just want the bolt cut off. The other stock bolts, the threaded area of the bolt is the same width as the smooth area, which means would fit just fine through it because the stock bolt is 11mm wide.

rest the open end of a combination wrench against the inside of the bolt head and hammer the wrench as close to the bolt as possible. it might ruin the threads but the bolt will probably come out

You ever get this figured out Nick?

That washer placed on the bolt before the threads are rolled onto it. Not sure why it's tack-welded to the frame(maybe an assembly line deal), but cut the welds with a cut-off wheel and it should come right out.

This might be a stupid question.. or already asked.. but did you try unscrewing the bolt out of the washer? On my LCA install.. one bolt was a bitch to get out. I had to "unscrew" it out of the one side... Then again I didn't have a fucking washer welded to my frame. LOL

It might fuck up the threads.. but who cares. You can get a new bolt if you need.

Or what he said ^

I ended up going the easier route and replacing just the ball joint, which is what I was trying to do by replacing the whole thing. So now I have a new one on one side and an old on on the other. Ohh well right at least I have the ball joint replaced.
