Probably my worst event in the past year. 4 runs, 7 cones. I really need to get the new suspension tuned. It felt worse than stock out there. Ran 74+3, 70+2, 72+1,72+1. I really just wanted to punch something after my last run. It felt so much faster than any of my previous runs and then at the end of the final slalom I pushed too hard and the rear snapped out.. again.

This car is so much faster than how I was driving today.

I'm probably going to take the Cone Killer title this year. I have 20cones in 5 events. uggh

That would be frustrating hitting all of those cones. That viper on street tires Saturday wasn't very forgiving either, but you have to do at least one "pansy" run, and stay away from the cones.

Super Unique

my 3rd run was my "Pansy" run. I honest don't remember hitting a cone. And I didn't see anybody scrambling to put a cone back up going through the slalom. Oh well.

Don't forget the $1 to get in at the gate. So $21 for saturday and $31 for sunday.

Once you try this, you will wish you had done it sooner.

BTW, the Z is quite fun to autocross.;)

The Nissan dealer from Port Charlotte brought a sweet turbo Z show car (Relentless RPM) and even let me run it a few times.:)

It's the one on their home page.
http://www.relentlessrpm.com/

Also, we do have other Z's too. Jorge runs his Black 07 out there a lot. Steve brings his silver 05 (supercharged beast) a lot. The one in my sig hasn't been there in a few months, (APS TT Monster) A Z32 N/A was there Sat. and I almost forgot the original Z that was also there saturday.

A 240Z, with its original owner driving it, with something like 30k original miles. (I love those cars.)

I guess the short answer is yes.

The suspension was done well, but the tires were not for the track. They simply didn't have enough grip. I think I ended up getting a 33.4XX in it.

Also, the STS Remote Mount Turbo didn't kick in until late in the tach so there wasn't much chance to use the extra power.

I crawled under my car last night after hearing some strange noises coming from the rear suspension, I found one of my Rear Sway bar brackets was just dangling there and I was able to easily move the Rear Sway Bar. Either the bracket is broken or the bolts backed out. Looks like I have some work to do after I get off.... work.

Looks like the bolts back out some how.. I really don't know how as they weren't loose, I couldn't take them out with my hand. So odd. I still have something else creaking in the suspension. I'm going to take the rear suspension apart some time this week. I'm irritated.

The cone count in my sig is for the 2009 Season. I'm afraid to count up the total with last season factored in. :)

Looked at the video from the last time we ran "this" course, and it was alot more open this time. I actually wish it would have been more difficult, as I might have been able to beat Steve Burger in PAX. With that fast straight, I wasn't catching that Z06. Again, I am talking about PAX, because I wouldn't catch him on raw time anyways.

Next month, if I am there, Craig Ellis wants me and Michael (brother) to have a 3 run (each) shootout in the Z06. I am pretty sure it will be a very good match, but with him winning. I am a pansy in RWDs.

You're sandbagging.;)

I intend to run with all electronic nannies off, even though it will be harder to drive. I still think the "competition mode" is calibrated for street tires, and the only way to get everything out of the race tires is to shut the stability control off.

We shall see.*Popcorn*

What time did you run in the Evo Dave? I would have to disagree about the advantages of the Z06. Its gearing really does not work well with this course at all. I have always believed that the Test-n-Tune course is great for an AWD. I was able to do a 30.4 Saturday on the Kumho XSs (which are great), and that is without a tune, and it was with a soft launch. If you drove the Z06, I think you would agree with me. Burger has never done better than a high 29 in his car or Craig's, and Burger can drive very well.

Edit: The dig at the beginning and at the turn-around are very good for AWDs.

veloce23

I remember it being an awesome time. That is fast!!! I figured that I could do a mid 29 with r-comps, but I don't know if the launch and good tune would get me to a 29.3. Was the Evo a 6 speed or 5? I thought it was an MR (6 speed). Regardless, that is fast!

i think you can def do it with the race tires john, your street tire time has my street tire time in the evo dominated.

veloce23
May 11th, 2009, 10:36 AM
Thanks for the confidence in me, but I am dead serious about how fast a 29.3 is. Did your overrev allow you to stay in 2nd gear without too much time on the revlimiter? Or did you shift to 3rd before the turn around and the finish? As for your street tire times in the Evo, you weren't on todays tires, and your suspension was set up for r-comps.

Semi Jew
May 11th, 2009, 11:17 AM
Well thanks :) I was pretty dialed in with that car I need to get to the same point in the Teg, since Billy keeps whooping me in it.

I never had to use 3rd in the Saturday course in the EVO since the tune allowed for 7800rpm shifts, i hit the limiter once at the end but that was it. You are right about the tires too... the Hankooks/Azenis aren't even close to the Kumhos that I'm using now.

hey john, how did the re01r compare to the xs?

veloce23
May 11th, 2009, 01:25 PM
hey john, how did the re01r compare to the xs?

In a recent test, the 195 RE-01s were about 3-4 tenths off of the 205 XSs, on a low 30 second course. While that is a significant diference in time, I loved the RE-01s, and have another set waiting after these XSs. The RE-01s had sharper (stiffer) sidewalls, and were better in the rain (significantly better). At the time, I could not get over how long they lasted, but I have lots of time on these XSs too. At the normal prices, I would stick with the XSs or the Dunlop Star Specs, but I could not pass up the clearance prices and hte $100 rebate. I got four RE-01s for $280 (before shipping). I plan to run one of the SE Divisional races, and if I were to win, then Brigestone will pay $300 (if 3 or more drivers run in STU). Seriously, I believe the RE-01s are awesome, just probably a little slower than the XSs.

Billy
May 11th, 2009, 02:45 PM

We do have some pretty quick STS (now just "ST" as of Jan 2009) drivers in the SE, but if you have the car ready, you should consider making the trip. From what I have seen, SCCA courses tend to be non-power courses and more of the speed maintainence type. I still need to work on alot, but especially my speed maintainence skills. I will do some research about the drivers.

ehhh. If I'm not using my own car I lose my motivation. I'm gonna get on the ball though. Watch though, next time I'm out with my mods they'll probably kick me out for having an external wastegate.

When I do get out there it'll be with more power (which is the last thing I need out there). I'll also be mounting the re01r's and a bigger front sway bar so it should be alright.

Billy
May 11th, 2009, 04:21 PM
uh maybe you should just tune you car and hold off on the swaybar for now. you need to try to set up your car up before you can determine if you need that front sway bar or not. you need to take that broken coilover controller off and actually tweak on your suspension a little.
