View Full Version : Problem - Running the Battery Dry

I bought my 2005 R6 Raven, and it seems to be eating batteries everyday. I went back to Pepboys today, and they replaced the battery because it has a 3 month warranty.
Sooooo, I did some research and found out that if you hold a voltmeter to the terminals, it should read 13-14v constantly, regardless of revving. If it's much too high, then it's overcharging and frying the battery, and the solution is replacing the rectifier/regulator. However, if it's lower than 13v, then it's not recharging enough, and the stator needs replaced. (most likely)
So does anyone have a voltmeter that I can pick up tonight or tomorrow around noon? I can return it in an hour.
Thanks

Also, is it difficult to replace the stator yourself?

Well, I borrowed a voltmeter from my school's engineering department and turns out that when running, the bike's only putting out about 11.82 volts, so it's almost 100% the stator. Ebayed it for about 50bucks.

Yup sounds like the stator bud.

Well, I replaced the stator and it went from 10.9V to about 11.8V, still not good enough. I bought a regulator & rectifier... charged up the battery and tested it w/o the r&r, it was at 12.4, threw it on and it's finally running at 13.9V! The new sprocket gets installed today.
