put on headers on my Z yesterday and let me say it was not a fun time..you need patience for it and if everything goes smooth it'll take about 5-6 hours
For the time it took, the sound, the torque and how much smoother the acceleration is. it was worth the time

Total pain in the balls to do. Hopefully you had some extensions and swivel tips to help out a little. Now time to cut that Cat off so you can feel a real difference.

I feel your pain. Try a header swap in an F-body ... not a fun chore, but worth the effort.

i always hear bad things about how the sound changes with headers...and i heard one with headers and sounded REALLY ricey....but idk...ill have to hear one of you guys' exhaust to change my opinion

Function over form any day. What kind of headers? How much of a gain? Who cares if it sounds "ricey". If I'm smokin you, well then you should be even more embarrassed.

In my opinion whoever puts headers on for sound purposes is a ricer.

Come on now, plugs and header swaps on f-body's are easy, I have done both in gravel driveways with out many tools.

well arent you the cool guy.

if im buying something that makes minimal difference , and its going to make a car sound like ass , then its not worth it to me.

Shit the mustang Header 1-1.5 hours slides right in

The headers have nothing to do with making the car sound Rice tbh.... Once you remove the Cats though you will get a raspy sound to your exhaust. But if you are looking to keep the car N/A headers do give a slight increase in hp.

hmm thats odd. i guess it just depends on their complete setup..

i heard one with a SR*S just like mine , and megan test pipes , and it sounded like pure fucking sex. and a guy on youtube has the same setup and it sounds good in the video , but 100x better in person

It all depends on the setup. I can't tell you how many shitty exhaust setups are raspy, and just sound terrible on LS1's. That is part of the reason I am waiting to buy the specific setup I want for my car, the headers and y-pipe are almost 1,100, and the rest is just supporting parts. I will be running my stock SLP catback since its one of the best, but quietest of all catbacks for my car.

Some people like the raspy sound. It is all opinion basically. Find something you like, and run with it. Headers would probably be a good thing for power, but you probably need to find the right combo for the sound you want.

Well my engine bay has a good bit of space so my headers wasn't bad at all except for clearing the steering knucle. Sparks takes about 20 minutes. Gotta love the aussies for a decent size hood. My first thought on an f-body like Titters camaro would be drop the engine. That bay looks like a nightmare to get deep into.

sorry that they aren't gt-spec, but at least you only paid $100 for them. Let me know how they do for you once you get it on the dyno.

i dont really know what they will do..i never dyno'd it before the headers. like i wrote before i did feel a difference in the bottom end and very smooth through out accel. last time i did was when i only had the nismo cold air and it made 252whp. im hoping for real decent numbers. i want to hit 300whp n/a with bolt ons

hhaha this thread is full of win!

For more fun than you can stand, you should all try digging out old, half eroded, and expanded glow plugs from a 6.5 LTD! It's an indirect injection diesel so pulling the heads wont help and the entire passenger side is hidden under the turbo and exhaust manifold. Both have to be pulled in order to service the glowplugs and injectors on that side...lol

Or if you love getting nasty dirty, swap an exhaust on a diesel.....LOL

lol, i love my inline 6 for the ease of working on it. unfortunately, I think my engine sounds like caca. it's just the sound of a n/a inline 6, and it can't be helped really, no matter with what setup.... always sounds raspy/whiney in the upper rpms. turbo inline 6s sound like sex. but i am surely not going to turbo just so I can say i'm happy with how it sounds, that's dee dee dee dumb.

NissanTech240

that stinks. im sure you can change it a bit. an inline 6 doesnt sound bad tho

I believe it's my own personal opinion. I've never had anyone tell me my car sounds like shit, most people like it. But I don't, not really. The 22RE in my '84 Celica sounded better, especially w/o a muffler, a very low deep sound.

I have a Trust/Greddy header, 2.5" exhaust, cat is gutted, magnaflow muffler. Even before I raped the cat, it was raspy and whiney in the top end. Gutting the cat actually made my exhaust tone sound deeper.

I am thinking of going to a 3" exhaust, but am afraid it could be overkill.

speaking of turboed inline 6's i think it would be pretty rowdy to turbo the envoy's 6 banger being thats its 4 wheel drive and can already chirp all four
