2010 GT-R Warranty Voided For Denying Nissan Access To Your Black Box Data
Additional exclusions unearthed in the customer disclosure form for the 2010 Nissan GT-R indicate the warranty is voided should you go insane and dyno test it or deny Nissan access to your black box data.
We're beginning to wonder why Nissan even offers a warranty on their apparently fussy supercar, as it would just better off to sell it sans protection and cut the price. It seems no matter what you do, you're bound to void the warranty in the course of enjoying the car anyway. This new agreement comes out for the 2010 model year, and in addition to the previous no-VDC launch control warranty killer, now we learn you can't even take it to a track or airstrip, run it on a dyno for purposes other than emissions testing, disconnect ANY on board computer or deny access to the data on the car's event data recorder, among many other stipulations
Reading through the agreement, it seems you aren't really the owner of the GT-R, only a minor inconvenience in Nissan's perfect engineering exercise. Complete GT-R customer disclosure form below:

Who cares.. if you can afford a GTR I'm sure you can afford repairs that come from your own hard use of the car.. just like ANY other car.
The GTR is amazing..

Being able to afford an $80k car doesnt mean that you can afford to shell out $20k in a couple of months when the tranny takes a shit.

A year ago I was on the GTR side when it came to the GTR VS. ZR1 debate. I've since switched.

I can't really blame Nissan for denying a warranty if you refuse to show them the black box. As a manufacturer I would want access to it, but only to check for a mechanical overrev or significant power modifications. Denying a warranty b/c someone dyno'd their "supercar", or took it to a track is crazy. The GTR continues to be quite unimpressive IMO.

After sitting in one, and looking at them in person ... they really just don't do it for me. It was a cool car, and was hyped up more than it could back. After the success of the C6 Z06, when I heard about the ZR1, I knew it would be awesome. They fixed all the bugs/complaints with the Z06, added more power, made it handle better, and still made it an affordable supercar.

Ok fair enough, for refusing to show, however what if they said you were driving the car too hard and the black box proves it so we can't warranty...
I think its a big brother issue..

I completely agree, "driving the car too hard" is a ridiculous reason to void a warranty. I was just saying that as a car manufacturer, I'd want to look at the box, but when I did I'd be looking for excessive abuse... bouncing the rev limiter for 10 minutes, severe overrev's (more than 500 over redline), obviously making significantly more hp than stock, etc.
Any stock car should be able to withstand the normal abuse of a dyno, drag strip, autocross, or trackday and I see no reason that should not be covered, especially on a car that has been hyped based on numbers from that type of activity.

Isn't the zR1 $130,000?? I wouldn't pay that for a corvette, I'd get an audi R8 or a ford gt for that kinda of money if anything

+1 rather have a older skyline gtr, probably cheaper and can be made faster easier i think. its more worth it if someone decides to go that path.
