1st off; I know I'm not putting down the best hp#s, but this thread isn't about that. I wanted to see how much difference the #s would be between dyno brands since I have read so many conflicting stories. I had a feeling the Mustang dyno was going to show low #s, and I was fine with that.

But now I have ran on all 3 major dyno types, with basically the same setup just so I could say I have done it.

5/15/2008 - 300ish miles on engine
Dynojet
155whp 175wtq

5/15/2009 - 10,000ish miles on engine, after HKS 1.2mm MHG was installed
Dyno Dynamics
152whp 175wtq
165whp 188wtq (same day, 5 runs later, AFM leaned out)

6/13/2009 - 11,000 miles on engine, no changes.
Mustang Dyno
158whp 178wtq

She broke a strap @ 6,000rpms, hahaha. My beastly 180ft/lb torque monstarrrr

It was supposed to be $20 for one run, no a/f but I ended up getting 3 runs in bc the 1st run was let off too early and then the strap broke on the 2nd run. YAY 3 runs for $20!

Interesting, I expected the mustang dyno to run lower than that, those are all very surprisingly close.

Yeah no kidding, I guessed she would do 120hp and 145tq on the Mustang... oops!

good runs.

i had a 13whp spread between dynojet and dyno dynamics on my car.

did they all imput the same wieght and 1.0 correction?

No weight input on a dynojet:thumbup:

There are to many factors when comparing numbers dyno to dyno.

It looks like all 3 of these were set up correctly. All to often, there is either dyno operator error or intentional "fudging" with correction factors involved.

A friend dynoed his 02 SS at the relentless dyno day yesterday and it put down 450HP:ugh2: It previously put down 430 without any changes on a known accurat dynojet.

There is no way that car with his mods are making that power.

Now the 2v mustang that put down just under 580 was a pretty accurate run. His car previously did 580:thumbup:

The Mustang dyno was the only one I knew about needing the weight input. They had to recalibrate the dyno to my car yesterday to run load based, since my car is pre-OBD. It was a good thing I was right there, since their computer wanted to input a stock weight of 3200lbs, which is totally off. And beyond the fact I had my car weighed recently at 2880lbs.

It's sooo easy to fuck up the necessary inputs on these. I think I happen to be very lucky to have gotten good runs in on all my dynos. And AFAIK, all my dyno runs are "uncorrected". The weather correction for the Mustang dyno yesterday had like 161whp and 185ft/lbs or something like that.

Here is a quote I got from the same thread on a Supra forum about this, every word of it true IMO

A LOT of the numbers seen online are fudged badly......

It's just marketing, Joe Street racer gets his car tuned on Dyno A it makes 400rwhp then attends a dyno day at Dyno B, then guys give him a few free "tweaks" spin it up and it makes 440rwhp and he's told it can be much better with a full tune with their secret settings..

In reality it more than likely made the same power if everything else was equal ie: Same altitude, humidity and air temps...

Joe goes and tells his buddies WOW Dyno B shop rocks everyone go there!

This may just be my cynicism showing but Dyno shops don't make enough $ from a dyno day to make it worth giving up a day of their weekend and paying their staff so the above is the ulterior motive ;)

I'd be more concerned at a clean consistant run than the number at the end and you got that, it didn't sound grotty or stressed at all so well done.

It is interesting that you find that to be true. But if it were why did I way undercharged you and take the extra time to get the most out of your car? It is fucked up how dyno shops, like myself, have to deal with groundless accusations and slander like this BS. I have NEVER tampered with anyone's #'s, even when I was offered alot of cash to (Guy wanted a better graph to sell a car on Ebay).

I have no ulterior motive, I don't make dick owning a tuning/dyno shop, but I make some and I enjoy what I do. My motive is simple, I want to provide the best service I possibly can. I do this by being honest, fair and by providing the best equipment/training available.

So Tanya if that is in fact your opinion and you feel you were victimized for marketing purposes, come up and get your measly $100 back.

Where... in ANY of that, did I say that YOU or anyone of my other dynos to be FALSE?

I was not talking about you, but dyno shops in general. I feel lucky to have had nothing but smart and honest people dyno my car, but that is not the case for everyone which is what I was talking about and surely you know that is true as well. It DOES happen.

Sorry you consider this to be slander against you, but it is not. I very much enjoyed the time spent at your dyno and thought you were very helpful. I wanted to come back up there next month and dyno again after I get my AFPR installed, but I guess that's not going to happen now because you seem to think I'm bashing you, when it's been the opposite -.-

those are pretty damn close, considering...

I say you found three of the closest matched dyno's of all time.

Tanya, awesome post. I've always wanted a back to back comparison of different dyno units. Glad to see there isn't too much deflection.

I am a dyno shop in general and in fact.

Did you read your copy and paste? It states that we are dishonest and we fuck with peoples #'s in order to make more money. What kind of response did you expect?

Tanya
June 14th, 2009, 10:01 PM
Did you not read that it was stated "a lot" of numbers are "fudged" not all?

Guess it doesn't matter. You're going to take it how you like. Sorry you feel that way, and I'm sorry I lost a good shop to dyno at.

So if that's not YOUR experience, why post up it up as your position? You did say that "Every word is true".

Tanya
June 14th, 2009, 10:12 PM
No it is not my personal experience to have "fudged" numbers, but I still believe there are shops out there that do it. I really don't have anything else to say on the matter. I've stated what I believe, you disagree, and that's that.
