PO302- Cylinder 2 Misfire detected on cold start up.

Basically I know my plug wires have been replaced twice by the dealership, I believe the plugs may be original. I have also thrown MAF codes in the past and I know my MAF is somewhat "dirty" and should be replaced. Plug wires were most recently changed last december during a valve cover gasket replacement.

The car has been running "normal" ever since I found a loose plug wire (Cylinder 3) that was causing me to run rough at idle in march. My car is well maintained and the oil is synthetic changed roughly every 3k miles.

Last Night, after driving through a sudden temperature drop in the outside environment from 78 degrees to the low 60s and the cool summer air turned into a foggy mess the car began to ran like crap. It runs fine under power but at idle (750rpms) it is jumpy and acted like it was on the verge of misfiring (like it did when the plug wire was loose some 8 or 9k miles ago). Well I park it once i get out of the woods, go to start it up this afternoon and right on the cold start up the SES light flashes several times then goes to solid.

I will try and take the vehicle to a shop tomorrow for some help (i'll probably just have AAA flat bed me there since its free and i dont wanna hurt my sensitive rover more).

so my main concerns at this point are
-Spark plugs need to be replaced
-MAF should be replaced, I'm not gonna dick around trying to drive this rover with a dirty MAF any longer
-I also need to buy a new upper airbox cover, one of my clips is damaged

any suggestions other than that to start and figure out what triggered this misfire?

What triggered it? Seemed to be the temp/humidity change... or it could just be a coincidence. Before taking it anywhere, I'd at least check out the condition of these spark plugs, especially to see if cylinder #2 has a drastic change in color...

yeah, i know i have a feeling what "triggered it". i guess i need more help in figuring out exactly what i need to fix/replace. yeah, i will pull the plugs later and look at them.

Pulling the plugs could definitely help you figure out what needs to be changed. If all the spark plugs look like they're running lean... it could be indicating the MAF sensor is shitting, fuel filter is clogged or the fuel pump is dying. If it's only one spark plug that looks faulty, it could be a loose plug wire or clogged injector...

Do what everyone already said when you get a chance.

For now, concentrate and be thankful you have 7 other cylinders.

haha yeah, these trucks may have some problems. but even on 7 cylinders i've seen my buddies rover drive from north TN to south AL without problems and he had even more miles than me. I mean the thing was throwing codes, and it hated not ahving an 8th spark plug, but the trucks can take the beating.

last night i was out at tuskegee around 2am, when she started running rough. i'm glad the rover was nice enough to wait til i was in a safe area (i.e. my home) to decide to put the light on. it was very dark in tuskegee last night....and i mean dark in 2 ways. it was VERY VERY bad last night.

well i after i discussed with scott on AIM about how likely it was i would be shot or killed by going out there at such a late time of night, i decided i couldnt resist and had to go.

on the way out, there is this shithole in the wall sports bar, well there are donks and hoopties lined up on the side of the highway for 2 miles, with some big booty bitchs and thug wanna-bes walking towards the bar. i mean there were close to 300ppl in the middle of the highway (which is a 60mph limit). i see only ONE cop car there, with 1 white cop with his lights on. i think it was a small concert, but with that many peopel in such a small place i can almost guarentee someone got stabbed there last night.

then i drove through the woods for a good ways alone for about 2 hours. saw a small herd of deer and some owls. that was it.

the rover looks right at home don't it? haha

the shop i took it to looks legit as hell. Talked to the owner himself. He drives a turbo (possibly TT) 993 and spends time racing. His shop was clean, organized and had only nice european cars except the shitty freelander parked on the side of the building lol.

well its good news.

plugs are fouled, ordered genuine plugs- i'll pay for it out of pocket

wires are fouled, ordered 8mm magnacore wires- land rover will reimburse me for the ruined genuine parts and possibly labor involved (up to 3 hours) due to their 12 month parts warranty so those wires will be cheaper than normal

water pump is leaking, new genuine water pump ordered- asked the mechanic to look into a possible coolant leak, h2O pump was leaking, will be replaced under my extended warranty

so this issue is minor and shall be solved fairly cheaply. i'm VERY happy with this new shop here in auburn and as of yet their quality has only been rivaled by Hunt Automotive in fort myers.
