So I was looking for quotes on a 2001 BMW M3 today...
Right now with State Farm, with the 01 Accord Coupe, I pay $160... $135 when I renew my good grade discount. I got quotes from Esurance and Progressive just to see what prices I'm looking at. The quote from Esurance was about $550.... per month. Progressive ended up being about $650 per month. I was shocked... then I saw an option for a package that comes to $204 a month.... only this package provides zero comprehensive and zero collision... in other words there is no longer any point in having car insurance, and I'd be paying $204 a month for it.
I called State Farm and got a quote for about $173 per month, or $140 w/ the good grade discount.
How the hell do I go from $550 to $650 to $140?

Sounds like State Farm is giving you legacy discounts. I know nothing about insurance though, but I also had shitty luck with Progressive when I looked into different carriers. I ended up sticking with Geico, with two vehicles, and two drivers it ends up being 285/mo.

a. dont fuck with a 01 m3,they have tons of problems.look for 03 and up.
b.statefarm is who i use full coverage on both cars with the highest coverage you can get and the mustang is 93 a month and the truck is 110
state farm is pretty much the best, and they cover anything without a complaint

Well unfortunately, I'm looking for M3s between 2000 and 2002, because they're in my price range, but I have seen a few 03's low enough. We have 3 drivers, 3 cars under our state farm package... but it still seemed ridiculous that it goes from almost $3k/6 months to $1k/6months.

+1, we use geico and for both the TL and RX8 with maximum coverage and minimal deductibles we are at $275/mo for 2 drivers and I have a horrible driving record.
Ross, are you on your parents ins? If so that would explain why yours is so cheap and why it would jump way up when you got a plan of your own for a sports car.

Progressive i pay 235 a month for me and the wife with both cars and the 1 ATV, and we have 100,000/300,000.
250 deduct
30-day rental car
loan pay off and 5,000 extra on both cars in-cause there totaled for custom parts and 3,000 for the atv

+1. It's gonna go way up if you are switching to your own policy.

That's not bad for a 20 year old with a sports car and tickets. Mine was over $500/mo when I was 21ish because of my tickets etc, I was nearly uninsureable.

I have a clean driving record ... my gf not so much. She was reading Jeff's manual one day, and hit a "person" on a bike who failed to yield at the crosswalk. She had the green arrow, but the cop didn't care. Then there was the 97 in a 70 last year. If I were to drop her, my rate goes way down, but she gets a steep discount with me on it ... so I just deal with it for now.
I have always heard great things about State Farm, but they were a little more than Geico when I got out on my own.

Yeah but your directgeneral when u actually get into a huge crash and people get hurt or die see how good they are then at paying everyone off and what not.
And steve G my insurance droped 40a month with i hit 25
Boys and Girls welcome to life without your parents getting your own insurance remeber when u get your first ticket see how much your insurance will jump up then be smart pay it for a year advance so then can't raise the price
