View Full Version : What Would You Get With $18k?
Rossim22
June 16th, 2009, 06:35 PM
That's about my price range. I am willing to pay about $200 a month for a payment, could afford more, but choose not to.... mainly because I'm still working at outback.
REQUIREMENTS
Has to be a car, no trucks or suvs.
Either 2-door or 4-door.
Less than $18k.
Quick but classy.
Manual.
Prefer RWD/AWD, but not 100% against FWD.
Prefer minimal modding.
My ideal car so far is a 2000-2003 E46 M3. Many can be found in my price range, they are sporty, fun, quick enough, yet classy and clean. The higher parts and maintenance don't scare me... mainly because most older guys/gals with bimmers don't think to look on forums for parts or help.

The cobra is definitely an option, as long as I can find one that appears not to have been beaten to death. Insurance on my SRT was $200/mo, I got quoted $140/mo for an 01 M3.

I will have $8k+ to put down and my dad with very good-excellent credit would most likely co-sign with me.
The 05 STi's aren't my favorite, but I love 06's lol.

I'm looking for something quick when its stock... because being a busser/host at any restaurant is nothing to boast about, so I won't have much money to mod. Therefore, I want something a little more upscale since I don't have to worry about going for all-out quickness.

Well I guess not terrible.. ? Lol. I don't have a long commute to anywhere. I was alright with the M3's 16/33mpg rating lol.

well for you could probably find a decent non modded e39 m5 at 18 k or slightly more but the maintenience would be killer for a busser.

I was looking at them, but they really don't look very good to me. What about the maintenance is so expensive? If there's no warranty on the car, then I don't have to go to BMW to do anything. Oil changes are oil changes. Brake pads are brake pads. Nothing BMW specific.

Brake pads aren't brake pads, there a ceramic pad so u go get it done at a FireStone,Tire Kingdom, Tires PLus u are gonna spend atleast over $225.00, its everything is more $$$$$$ when your buying a name, shit breaks and needs to be replaced and when that happens its no so cheap.

Yeah, I will. Not in a huge hurry to get anything done right now, just looking for ideas. Have to sell the bike and car first anyways lol.
However.... it could be a lot faster if he takes a trade in for what I owe on the accord... :ugh2:

Maybe a nice c5 vette. Their nice cars, reasonably quick, and with little mods they make good power. Plus you'll have somewhat of a decent gas mileage.

Acura TL lol. A 2004-2005 can be had for that price range right now. Not as fast as most of the vehicles listed though, it only manages mid-low 14's and high 13's with bolt-ons but for luxury it's hard to beat. Major problem for most people would be that it's FWD, and I doubt you'd be interested. I may be a bit biased :P

A 15k C5 vette and 3k in mods. Nothing will touch a vette when it comes to price, handling, reliability, response to mods, IMO.
