it's come down to these two.

i thought i'd be OK up here in VA if my 240 ever broke down, but it's started to give me issues again, and i've realized i no longer have the free-time to tear it apart everytime something goes wrong..

i'm asking on an overall standpoint, not what you've seen go faster..i need a reliable DD that i can have a little fun in, if need be

especially in these bad-ass neighborhoods, i need something quick lol

mini. They're super nice, reliable, pretty quick. And pretty orignal not as me2 as the GTi

Id say go for the mini but I am a little biased. Ive had my mini for three years now and It has been basically problem free. It handles better than most cars on the road and is quick around the twistys. I havent driven a gti but Ive raced a few. The supercharger boosts earlier than the gti so my mini would pull ahead quickly and stay there till about 120.

The downside is it is basically a bmw and with that everything for it is expensive. After "stage 1" mods which are pulley intake exhuast and tune. It starts getting expensive to mod it. Those mods will put you at around 210 wheel. Which def gets the car moving.

If you buy the mini, people will hate on you i gurantee it.

That's actually not that bad of a price for an s, but the miles may be a little on the higher side at 69k. Shouldn't be too hard to find a cheaper mini w/ less miles since they're everywhere now.

go for the mini. just look at the values of the car. that is a 2004 mini with 70k miles for 14k. that is an 06 GTI with half the miles and nearly the same price. just based on the depreciation i'd say go for the mini. the coopers are fun, reliable, and much more unique than a dubbbb.

im actually in sorta the same debate ( im looking at the mazdaspeed 3 as well) but my gf's brother has a mini s that he bought new and that little bitch hauls took him like 3 hours to put a intake on but whatever haha he hasnt had any issues with it beside hitting shit so they are reliable from my experience. the interiors are a toss up they both are real nice, both pretty quick just the GTI reminds me of a door stop:ugh2: lol test drive both them make the decision :SolidStraight:

Yea but honestly those mods make the mini the way it should have come from the factory. Those are the same mods that come in the john cooper works edition. For about 400 dollars you can have better performance than a kit that costs 2000 from mini. You can test drive mine anytime you want if you want to feal a slightly modded one. Plus the supercharger sound you get from the intake is awesome.

crossfire =

if im not mistaken isnt the mini-s only like 20-25 hp under that? and isnt it like nearly 500lbs lighter???lol

I know I’m a dub guy but the gti is such a great everyday car that is fun to drive and has plenty of versatility. <O:p</O:p

Predictably I say go with the GTI.
The mini is a fun car, my friend has one. They have tones of great features and are pretty quick. However for a daily driver the GTI takes it. It's such a great all around vehicle. It's fast and practical. Lots of usable torque, and like has been mentioned, is very mod friendly.

Plus DSG >>>>>>> CVT (if you don't go with a manual)

Also lets see you try and do this in a mini......

If the GTI is such a great vehicle and such a good DD... how is the MINI not? I was completely against the MINI but they're pretty cool little cars. I'm not sure if all the S's are the same way, but the stock carbon fiber dash and the airplane styled switches give a nice feeling inside. Also, it is actually pretty roomy in there.

As for the acceleration, I raced Mike's mini (not sure if he had the pulley done yet at the time) in my ex's 350z and I was baaaaaarely pulling on him at higher speeds. Plus, mini's rape autox's.

So do you have the combination of acceleration, great handling with .87g on the skidpad, compared to the dub's .83.. ? No, sir.

In addition, you get the reliability of bmw when you buy the mini. Otherwise... you settle with vw, where you'll spend more time repairing the vdub, than actually enjoying it.

Oh no, i don't doubt the mini is a great car. When i was car shopping it came down to a Mini or a GTI. I was favoring the Mini, mostly cos I'm English, but i ended up deciding to stick with the GTI for the previously mentioned reasons. It was a little more fun to drive than the mini, and more practical.

My friend has an 07 CooperS and it's a blast. Nice big British Flag on the roof, and fully loaded with all the features. However his is the auto, which sucks balls. It's a fun car, but I prefer the GTI.

The GTI seemed a little quicker than the mini. The handling was around the same, and there really wasn't much in it as far as performance goes stock vs stock.
For me it didn't seem like the mini had enough of a fun factor to justify ditching the more practical side of things. I just thought "Why get the fun without the practicality, when i can have both with the GTI?"

This turned out to be a good decision in the long run, cos i don't think putting my German Shepherd and Labrador in a mini would be a good time

Also i prefer the interior in the GTI to the Mini.

damn, i never came back with the verdict lmao.

well, i went to test drive both cars, drove the mini first.. it was OK, the interior just seemed kinda cheap/flimsy (might've just been abused, i don't know), the A/C didn't blow cold even after a full half-hour and it was kinda small on the inside.. (it was roomier on the inside than it looks, but still too small..)
i'm not too sure what it was, but it didn't seem very zippy for a little supercharged car..

drove the GTI, loved the interior.. big, and classy like a newer BMWs interior (if you've been in one, you know what i'm talking about)..the multi-function display in the gauge cluster is nice, loud radio.. and for some reason, it seemed a lot quicker (maybe it's just the lag that makes the acceleration seem steeper, although i don't notice the lag, either).

needless to say, i went with the GTI; then 3 days later we went on a 5-week underway to africa because the president was making a speech in ghana on july 10th-11th; :( the whole time i just wanted to get home and drive.

If you are going to DD it and have some kind of warranty I would go with the mini, if no warranty I would go VW.
