Have what it takes to cut away this steel bumper support? It weighs like 20lbs. I want to get atleast 12lbs off it, while still keeping the fog lights and front styrofoam shit. Plasma cutter?

you have a lot of faith in your driving skills and the ones around you. back one i wouldnt be hugely concerned with (although i wouldnt take it out) but decreasing the rigidity of that peice will almost certainly render your car totaled if you get in a "fender bender" let alone a real accident. thats for race cars to remove not daily drivers.

I agree. 20lbs isn't going to make a big enough difference.

I don't want to remove it, just take some material off, it's still going to be there along with the styrofoam. and 10lbs even 20lbs off the nose end of these cars is worth it, soon the car won't be my DD anyway.

i dont even want to try and imagine the amount of man hours in r&d on that peice. i gaurantee anything you do to it (even 10lbs as you say) will render it useless.

and just hope that if in the event that you did get into an accident; hopefully the insurance adjuster doesnt notice that it had been altered or else you can consider yourself screwed without lube...

With the money you spend on getting that done, you can spend it elsewhere and see more gains.

Go on a diet and lose the 10 lbs yourself.

^troof. or do without some luxuries. that's one part of my car I won't ever touch unless she becomes a track only brat.

use a hole saw and remove some metal. dont cut it with heat, it will make it weak.

Lol, I need to gain weight, 140 isn't cutting it. I like the hole saw idea, but I don't think it's possible, this things made out of steel and would probably just destroy hole saw bits. I'll just hole saw the radiator support, cut rear seatbelt mounts off, swiss cheese window rollers, and w.e else. fine fuhk the front support for now, maybe later on ill make one out of some steel tubing.

what about having someone fab an aluminum crash bar? probly get the weight reduction you're looking for.

dude seriously...all this crap you are cutting off your car isnt doing shit. all you are doing is destroying it. people with RACE cars do this stuff to get every last hundredth out of a car.

Nooooo.... cut down to 128 like me! lol. Just weigh out the pros and cons, you're talking 10 lbs lol. Take out the front passenger seat and there goes 15-25lbs, better than taking out what's protecting your car.
You might want to take off the window tint though. That's adding some very unnecessary weight.

Just take the whole exhaust off from the headers. That should help reduce weight. :biggrin

This isn't a drag car, I don't care about quarter mile times. My goal is to get this car as close to 50/50 weight distribution as I can, and as much weight off as I can, without sacrificing too many of the luxuries. I want to be able to take it to Sebring and actually stay on the course. Sure you say it's bullshit now, but many have done it and I see no reason why I can't either. Yeah it's a long road, but every little thing counts. I'm getting closer, slowly, but closer.

Throw some cinder blocks in the hatch and some spray on the engine to compensate and you've got win.

theres easier ways to get 50/50 distrubution then hacking your car up. and you dont need it 50/50 to keep it on the track. you just need to know how to drive it and have the suspension properly set up.

true, what paint should I use to paint the lower airbox btw?

Pretty silly idea if you ask me. Especially if you are talking about being successful at sebring. There are 100's of things you can do improve your car for that. This is something you do when you've come to the point that you can't pick up time elsewhere. Plus, by doing this you might sacrificing structural regiity which will compromise your camber in hard carnering which will more than take away any gains you got over the weight.

Yeah, true, I'm not at that point and probably won't ever be. Sway bars and an alignment are next. Some lessons with Jared too.

I still think an aluminum crash bar would be the best idea if you're serious. You wouldn't lose structural support, you're just just replacing steel with aluminum. Probly cut the weight in half.

depends how much work you want to put into it. rattle can will work. i smoothed mine and used regular automotive paint and clear which is a much more expensive and pain in the ass way to go.

A battery relocation and/or a light weight battery will do twice what this will do for weight, w/o creating any safety hazards.
