View Full Version : Anyone with a MIG?

I need my exhaust welded before I freak out completely. It has always been somewhat leaky due to the fact it is using the stock cat with upgraded 2.5" piping on either side and it just doesn't mesh weel. The gaskets that came with my exhaust have never fit right and Ive replaced them a few times only for it to leak again.

I hit my cat on a speed bump last night and the exhaust leak is even worse. I've had it. I want the cat (which is gutted) to be welded to my midpipe and the pipe before it.

I really do not want to go to Cookies tomorrow but will if I have to, would rather have this done today. :frown

Ugh, it's too late now. I went to Cookie's and had him take out the cat and put a pipe in. The car sounds absolutely horrible like this.

Fail.

Yes.

Hacked into my HKS midpipe for this little fiasco and now I want earplugs just to drive it. At least I didn't pay a lot but I had no idea the sound would change SO drastically.

Yeah, NA imports without cats usually sound pretty nasty. You just gotta throw a turbo on it to smooth out the sound. :redspotd

get a resonator in place of the cat in the future, that should mellow the tone out a bit.

Tanya next time if you need i have a mig and a lift in Naples.

Tanya

^Oh I need this shit fixed right ASAP. Still leaking, sounds like poo, etc etc. I need to take the whole exhaust down, cut the shit out that Cookie's welded in, put a resonator in its place, and weld up a flange in front.

Do you have a sawzall too? LOL

^ Joe knows his shit.

As has been noted, get a resonator of some sort or a bullet muffler on there in place of the cat to mellow the tone down.

its a pain in the ass getting an na import with no cat to sound decent.

ill be going on my 4th catback next week with the new motor. somehow i think i 3" exhaust n/a is going to be raspy even with the two 18" resonators that I'm having put in.

Tanya
October 7th, 2009, 06:04 PM
At this point, I fear spending any sort of money for a resonator when I KNOW I liked the sound of my car WITH the gutted cat, I just HATED that the fucker was leaking... thats all I wanted was the damn flanges to be welded, but NOOOOoOoOooO too fucking difficult apparently.

I'll be pissed as hell spending $100ish and then hating the damn sound of whatever I get if that happens. Ugh.

Tanya

Pffft, I had a cherrybomb on my 1st Supra, back in 2001.

I've grown up and I refuse to do that to this car.

Tanya

Probably going to ask someone to send me a stock cat, so I can gut it and put it back how I want it, LOL

Fuck this nonsense already.

Tanya
October 7th, 2009, 07:29 PM
I will probably be broke by then, LOL

we'll see I guess. Im actually getting used to the sound. I might go to the meet tonight and ask around to see if it's annoying to anyone else. My ex drove beside me the other night and said it wasnt as bad as I was making it out to be. *shrug*

Cherry bombs work pretty good as resonators. Get a smaller one that will fit in-place of the cat; that'd be a cheap way to mellow it down, just don't take the current muffler off.

Tanya
October 8th, 2009, 11:55 AM
Nah, I'm going to go back with what I know I liked before, that way I cannot set myself up for more anger issues, LOL. And it's a lot cheaper as well :]

isn't a gutted cat pretty much the same as a straight pipe?

Tanya
October 8th, 2009, 12:51 PM
isn't a gutted cat pretty much the same as a straight pipe?

If that were the case, would I really be flipping out over how much different my car sounds?

Last month: car with gutted cat... deepish (for an inline n/a) sound, not droney on interstate,

Right now: car with straight pipe... goes from fairly quiet to obnoxiously loud at 2500rpm, high pitched drone, very loud in car on interstate

yes there is a BIG difference in the sound between straight pipe and gutted cat.

ajstefanacci
October 8th, 2009, 01:12 PM
did you get a whole straight pipe or just a cat delete pipe?

JP
October 8th, 2009, 02:13 PM
A gutted cat acts as an expansion chamber, which can have an effect on exhaust/sound waves similiar to a resonator.

Tanya
October 8th, 2009, 02:29 PM
Cookie's hacked into my HKS midpipe and the pipe before the cat and welded in a section of straight pipe... and did a poor job of it as well. So yeah, don't go there =/

you should do like japan and have sidepipe stacks
