Can anyone give me an idea of how much it's going to cost me to register the Miata? I would like to get this done tomorrow. And will be getting a new plate, and I've heard that the rates went up..
I just need to get this done ASAP so I don't have the same mishap as I did with the eclipse.

$225 to register, $28 for a new plate, $75.25 if it was titled in Florida before - $85.25 if was titled out of state previously, then $20 if it has been 30 days past the purchase date. Plus if you haven't paid sales tax on it yet, it will be 6% of the purchase price due.
$328-358, plus sales tax.
Page 4 of the PDF can help you, but I summed up what it should be. Just double check.

depends on the car, how much you put down as what you paid for.
the most expensive thing is switching the title

Alright, thanks man! I was kinda expecting something in the 3xx.xx. Unless my parent's can't get it on the insurance. It should be out at the next meet!

If they ask for a purchase price for sales tax, just say it was a gift. Don't know if it will still fly, worked with my LT1 like 7 years ago. If not, just claim the purchase was $500-1,000 and pay $30-60 bucks on the sales tax.

i used the gift excuse not even 6 months ago, when I registered the protege. My old shop teacher (who I got the car from) told me they keep track of that kinda stuff. So I was planing on telling them I paid 225 for the car as a mechanic special type deal if they ask... Cause it was stuck in reverse when I first picked it up.

Ya, pay enough to make it look non-suspicious. Good luck with it.

when i registered the camaro after i got it, the pervious owner put down that i only paid $100 for it. i was surprised at the cost to register, and they said that it doesn't matter how much you paid for the car anymore. i think they go by weight now.... not sure.

I know they go by weight when it comes to re-registering in every year and getting your little sticker. Which is why it only cost me like 60 something I think compared to my sisters 80 or so. But like Titter said, I think it's more or less for the sales tax of it. And I though the plate was going to be the expensive part of it too.

It's by weight, which would make it $46 for the Miata. Mine was like $57.
They raised all the registration fees in September of last year. Out-fucking-rageous, especially if registering an out-of-state car like I did. Thankfully I have two FL plates in my name, or it'd have cost me $200 more than what I paid ($180 for registration, title, etc)

Yea the Miata has a Florida title. I kinda though I paid less than 60, but I wasn't sure. I'd rather over estimate what I'll end up spending on this rather than under estimate.

Just read the PDF from flhsmv, it will be around what I posted. It isn't cheap, and rates changed in September of last year. Weight is used to calculate tax on renewals only.

Nothing I have to worry about at the moment, couldn't get it insured. Out company wont allow us to have 5 cars on at one time. We'd have to open another policy in order to insure the Miata. My parents don't plan on doing this until we have to renew our current policy with them, but that's in June.... So I have sometime to wait, and save the cash for the registration:shift:shift:shift

Why don't you get your own policy? Just browse the web for quotes.

I've looked before, and I got the lady to give me a quote for what it would be to open my own policy. If my parents open a new one, it'll be 108 Down, with 54 a month. If I open my own policy with this company, it'll be 206 down, and 140 a month. And that's with me having no accidents/tickets.
I still think it's bullshit they won't let us add another car. But I rather pay 54 a month rather than 140.
