Ok boys and girls i think its time i get rid of the 3:73 gears and step up to a 4:10. Reminder i do not take the car to the track and really don't like taking it there.I like to play on the street. Rear end now as it sits ford racing 3:73 gears with a 31 spline eaton posi unit, with upgraded axles. I want to know what are the pros and cons of me stepping up to 4:10 and what tires would be better or best in a 17in and 18in rim.
Thank u

i have the 4.10's and sometimes with i could go back to stock on long trips lol... im crusing at 3k rpm at 85mph...thats half redline for me...
if you dont do alot of highway i think 4.10 is perfect would even go 4.30 but all depends on your driving habits

Cruising at 85mph? You wouldn't like my car with no overdrive and a 3.50 gear!!

Don't do alot of highway and if I do cruise control at 75mph. The extra gas ain't a big deal still will be gettin 20mpg on highway with 4:10. I was think 3:90 but I'm I going to be kicking myself in the ass after that for not doing the 4:10

4.10 and some Dunlop Direzza Star Spec.
I have star specs and they hook like a mother in 50degree weather. They are rated better than any other street tire and they are also rated in with track tires. Can't wait till it gets warmer up here to see what they can actually do. I have 18x9 and 18x8 fronts have a 145x35 and rears are 175x40.
I would like to get a 4.08 final drive but I like top speed runs so don't know if I'm gonna get one.

Because you don't have a 4.6 on spray.

Son u are not allowed to comment on any of my threads for life jk, but the tires i always use are drag radials like a 315 or 305 40/17

456s and daily driven
its not big deal
if you step up from a 26 tall tire to a 28 tall tire it was pointless to do the gear swap tho

oh and theres not point in spending money to just go from your 373s to 390s. if your gonna do it get 410s

I have to imagine it's gonna be a little rough for a 5spd, at least I have the benefit of a rather tall 6th gear, without it I'd go insane on the highway.

its not THAT bad :confused
:rofl1:
it just sucks cuz my car is loud
i can cruise at 90+ if i really want to (and ive done it for 30+ miles on 75)
just gotta crank the radio up
i still get like 20mpg :ugh2:
usually i just do like 70mph and it doesnt really bother me going kind of slow

With 4:56 your not getting 20mpg so let's stop that right now.
But Dave wanna stay on my same shot I think until I get about 2k to drop on topend
just thinking 4:10 would put me where I wanna be, or just do the 3:90 and step up the nos another 25hp and still be safe on the plastic intake and heads. I can't afford to fuck those head I did that 2 years ago running Julio spraying in 5th until I looked down and couldn't find 6th gear lol

im not? :confused
i still get 200+ miles for a full tank of gas
just like when i had 3.27s and 410s
if anything my mpg around the city is even better and i typically still coast at the same rpm on the high way as i always have, i simply tend to go 5mph slower then before
but if i am going fast on the highway to you really think an extra 300-400 rpm changes highway mileage significantly?
posts like this show how much you really know, or more so how much you dont

4.30 wouldn't be so bad on a 28" tire.

:stickpoke: You do realize that your speedo is still tuned for 4.10s......So you are not putting on as many miles per tank as your car says.
It is VERY unlikely that your hitting 20mpg on the highway.
On another note, the steeper gears will help MPG around town.

i know that
i also know that i got to a gas station on e, put 14 bucks in and went 94 miles on 75 (according to mapquest) at 80+mph and wasnt back on e yet when i got back :ugh2:
14 bucks was 4.6x gallons and i got atleast 94 miles out of it which is 20.43 mpg
:tongue

with my 4.10's going to ft myers on e i pumped $20 which was 6.3 gallons...
drove to ft myers and back= 155 miles and still had about 15 miles of city driving out of the tank so 170 miles/6.3
wtf somewhere around 26mpg theres no way lol...

Was the car out of gas when you added your 4.6 gallons? You cant always go by the gauge. They are inconsistant with actual amount of fuel compared to the level noted on the gauge.

i was about to run out when i added the gas
you know how my car gets with the ford gt pump and very little gas :shift
anyways, when i said like 20 mpg i simply meant around it. i mite average "like" 18 or 19. idk, idc lol
i was just saying that i have never noticed any real difference in gas from 3.27s to 410s, to 456s and was basically just getting at that he should get whatever gear allows him to perform the best
which i think we can both agree with :redspotd

Do you typically race from a dig or roll? If a roll what speed normally.
I would say 3.90 from a roll and 4.10 from a dig.
