anyone have personal experience with b16's ? i got a little bit and i know the basics but could someone point me towards decent parts? i'm kinda budget minded as always , frefer to stay n/a and only looking to make about 180fly.hp. it already has type r pistons , adj cam gears and exhaust.... it's b16a btw .... i've never owned a honda for more than a week and it's all kinda new to me.

thats the weaker of the b series motors but you can make decent power(for a honda) if you would want to turbo it. allmotor is another thing though.get some typre r cams and some super tech valvetrain and you should be on your way.

my friend made 340whp on a stock b16 on an ebay setup on 15 pounds.
and put pistons, rods, and block guard after it blew on 17 pounds, put it on 22 i believe on racegas and made 452whp. i mean you can make them beast and they take a beating just like every other honda.
you can get an ebay setup and if you do it right with hondata and a good tune you can make good power for really cheap

if you are only looking at getting 180 or so to the wheels, you will have no problem doing that n/a. keep the bottom end the way it is and put a cam and valve train in it and you should be there.

Jose, my back in the day set up was a jdm b16 with 12:5-1 pistons, eagle rods and gsr cams. The little bugger ran a 8.6 at IRR. Then it blew up haha! Just make sure its healthy.

yeah , i'm not looking to set any speed or hp records , i'd be happy with 155-160whp . so far the list is , header, intake manifold , and a tune. maybe stage 1 cams and valvetrain and a bigger tb later... i want a reliable settup that i can dd without worries or weird idle and shit. would that get me close to my goal? i gotta get more research time...

i would have to say i love b16's made plenty of power with mine but it is far from stock
my car last time out made 500whp @ 17lbs of boost and was on the way to see 33psi and should have been close to 700whp but my aem cam gear slipped on the dyno and caused the valves to hit . a good tune is going to be the key, rolo at cft (central florida turbo) does great job . cams are going to be your biggest hp gain. i would go with ctr cams so that what you don't have to go internally in the motor . you will be able to keep your stock valve springs and retainers . and then also do your intake manifold , edlebrock victor x it a good one for these motors since they like to rev high , make sure you have a good header and a good exhaust 2.5" for an NA would be good and definitly a hondata s300 i wouldn't waste anytime going the cheap way on this i did at first and just got a hondata s100 it was a big waste of time i eventually had to get the
s300 . a buddy of mine is selling a set of ctr cams if your interested if you have anymore question feel free to ask .shoot me a pm

yeah it looks like with the ctr pistons, cams , aj cam gears ,headers , exhaust and hondata my goal is easy to reach. i already have the pistons, cam gears and exhaust , i was wondering if i had to get rid of my VS and retainers , good to know i can keep mine. would the s200 be a good compromise?

Cams and a good header.
As for engine management, id suggest either neptune/ectune and going to a reputable tuner.

could i make my 160whp goal with the stock airbox/tube?

could i make my 160whp goal with the stock airbox/tube?probably but it will become a restriction and at 160 whp N/A, you could be reaching 165-170 with a CAI. And 2.5" exhaust for his goals on an N/A setup would be to much in my opinion as you want to make use of the scavenging affect created by an exhaust with a little more back pressure. an s300 would also be over kill for his goals as im sure they can be reached with either crome, neptune, ectune or an s200 with no problems at nearly half the cost.

the s200 will work good , as far as cai i wouldn't do it. i would stick with a short ram or you can try and mod the stock one .to much rain down here for a cold air

yeah, that's what i think , maybe an alum tube from the box to the tb and open the bottom of it

B16 are a stong ass motor. How can someone say its the weakest thats crazy b20 is the weakest. Now having the torque is the issue. Neptune or crome is the cheapest tune. I have used crome on a few cars and its really just fine more than youll ever need.. A b16 properly put together will hold up to beatings. An all motor one is even more impossible to kill unless your reving past 9k.

i think they were talking about weak power wise not strength.

Actualy if you wanna talk strenth, the old B21A was easily the biggest pos, anything past 7k and those things liked to rip themselves to peices. Among the more 'current' engines, the venerable B18A1 with it's mighty 130hp would take the take for most futile. B16 is a little beast..

i would like to see both of these carswhat kind of time did you runs in the hatch? and what did you use for engine management?
