ok.... today was the second time that I saw one.
The first time was a couple of weeks ago.. I was in Miami, and I was driving by "The Hilton" which is one of the best hotels in downtown miami, and sitting in a parking spot at the entrance to the lobby next to a ferrari, was a yellow beetle GTi.
Yellow in color, same as the GTi Golf
Golf GTi Rims
There was no turbo spoiler
GTI badge on the trunk where there is usually the sport badge.
Lower than Stock height
Looked like the Golf GTI steering wheel,
GTI logo on the front seats,
Seats where leather with the center matching the exterior color, (Looked like recaro type seats :whoknows:)
and on top of the euro turn signal, near the fender, was a v6 badge. <-WTF, the only v6 I know is the RSi cup edition, that is sold in Australia.
I have never seen or heard of a beetle GTi, or belive me I would have owned one. I love them!
So fine, I tried to research it, and everything... found nothing on it. I gave up thinking that it must have been some ricer kid...
Today... I was in Naples, and I saw a super old ass lady driving one, this one was a identical to the other one I saw in Miami, the v6 badge and everything, except this one was black. The tag on this one was still paper, and it expired in 2 months from now.
I pulled next to the lady at a light, and I asked her for directions, then I brought up the car, she said that she bought it at the dealer new a couple of days ago, brand new.
WTF? A GTi Beetle? V6? Is there a new model or something?

The dealer might have spec'd it out for a new car sale because they aren't moving. One of the mechanics at ZFever up in tampa told me that the ford dealership down the road had a huge number of the new mustangs but had beyond overwhelming demand for rouche (spelling?) and shelby and SVT mustangs that the dealership had them put a supercharger and a few other things on the regular mustangs. Can't keep them in stock and they're supposed to bepretty nice.....

Well it depends.
Are you referring to the same seats/rims as the MKIV or MKV GTI?
If it looked like the MKV (06+) then what you probably saw was a Test vehicle. Theres a Test group for the Volkswagen-Audi group that operates outside of Tampa that tests all sorts of new VAG cars.
My thread of the Audi Q7 is a perfect example of those vehicles. The Q7 was just introduced, but I spotted this one in early Jan. I have seen many cars as test cars around here, FL seems to be a big place to test them. Ive seen them all covered up an all like you see in the spy shots in magazines. its funny, bc when you try to take their picture they SCRAMBLE to get away. just their job i guess
BTW the RSi was not only sold in Australia, it was for sale in Europe and Mexico as well. It was extremely similar to the R32 (3.2L VR6 with the Haldex AWD).

Well I dont think that this was the case... Because there is just WAY to many things for them to change in that car... it would not be worth it. Just the fact that the car was a V6, the only v6 that I know is worth the $ to put in those would be the R32 engine, and drivetrain, leaving the beet AWD with 6sp manual. This is a 15 to 20k swap... I dont think a dealer would do that. As for Ford... I heard about that, but it was with the F150, they were converting the reg quads to the Harley Edition.
Well it depends.

Honestly David, I am not that familiar with golfs to tell which is which between Mk4, or Mk5.

The car didnt look like the Golf, it was a bug. It was completely different... Looked hot, the guages were different, separate like the R32, and the Jettas. Not the usual round cluster that beet is known for. It just had the rims, steering wheel, seats, and some other stuff like the GTI golf does.

Well this lady was preety cool.. she didnt hide anything, I think I could have gotten more info from her if there was time, but we were at a light. The cars were not rly covered up, and they looked like the regular 06+ beets except for the stuff mentioned above.

Think that maybe these cars are specially imported for the ppl who specifically request them? Because these cars were both seen in places where wealthy ppl reside. So I am guessing that they might have been "specially" requested from the factory, or something.

1st problem. Did I hear you say that a new VW Beatle was HOT???? *looks wierd at you*
2nd - didn't the lady say she had just bought the car at the dealership? It probably wasn't a test vehicle if so...

My cousin has one of the new beetles and he has nothing but problems with it. The old Beetles were really reliable (as seem most VW's) but the new Beetles have a reputation of not being reliable....

Yes they do. The cheaper the VW is that you get, the crappier its going to be. Thats why I am an Audi guy, not so much VW, even though people insist they are "the same."

how true are the allegations that audi's suffer a lot of electrical problems? i've read stories about the factory stereos and other electronic components messing up on fairly new vehicles but those stories could be just that.

I kinda dissagree on that.
My Friend Brittany got her first car in 98, it was a Beetle GLS in Black. She has that car till today, more than 115,000 miles and all she had to worry about is small shit like brake pads, oil changes, um... anyway, the biggest thing that we had to do to it was change a starter. And that was because of flooding of the parking lot that the car was parked at, and while driving out it must have damaged it somehow.
Another reason... My friend Sean purchased an 02 Jetta GL. Still driving it around with no probs.

Bah. Never been a big fan of Audi. And I think cars are getting way too complicated. The more crap you put on a car, the better the chance of it failing.
Then again, I'm the guy who wants a Lotus Elise :-/

Get an Ariel Atom or something.
And I was generalizing on the price vs. reliablity example. You will see higher failure rates as the price of the cars go down. You won't see as many problems in the $70K Phaeton than a base model mkiv Jetta.
Of course you might find somebody with a 1995 Jetta that hasnt had anything unusual other than wear and tear. Doesn't mean thats the typical result.
And as for electrical gremlins, they are sometimes present but so far, the main ones for the R32 (I haven't had any of these) are brake lights that intermittently/randomly turn on, and a speaker that was wired out of phase (mine isn't).
Thats VW.
I've owned two Audis and not once experienced any electrical problem. Everything was put together much better, higher attention to detail, and just better overall build quality

that's what i figured. i've always liked audi's, especially the A4, and i figured it was more than likely a few isolated incidents.

Its a guy I know named Jeff. He does R32 conversions. He has done a Beetle and a Jetta GLI, both with the Haldex AWD.
It was sick seeing the Jetta R32 launch in the rain over at a VW GTG. Seeing all 4 wheels spinning around a corner while hearing my exhaust note was amazing.
