The L5 isn't a bad sub, but the L7 is even better. Never been a big fan of JL Audio stuff, its too overpriced in my opinion.
And no offense, but that box doesn't look very custom. It looks like a pretty standard square box with a center box. That's about a $130 box, unless it has some extensive work that you cant see from that angle.

Well i guess i should tell you how i ended up with the L5's so you know my little story. As we all know Kicker is one of the best brands out there (Sub wise) the kicker Amps have been loosing quality in my opinion unless the older mono block Comp Amps. Kicker Solo Barics L5's are been sold for $300 here in naples and the L7's have 200 more watts and they are a little more expensive. I ended up with the L5's because i bought the 2 subs and the box for $250 NO ONE can beat that price, trust me. Thats how i got them instead of paying $350+ for the L7's
JL Audio, I wasn't a big fan of JL Audio untill i started reading up on them (when pjnightss was selling me a (250-1) I can say that what really got me into it was when i walked into Sound Advice and *bling* *bling* pretending i was rich with $1000 in hand cash to buy an Amp and asked them for the (BEST AMP THEY HAD) Well the 1st best Amp was $2,000 which i didn't have and i wasn't going to spend on a Amp cause im no where near being close to being rich or anything.. then the 2nd and 3rd best were JL Audio Amps, the 1000/1 and 500/1 one of the things that cought my attention was when i told the guy i also need a CAP and he said (wait a minute homie, with this amp you dont really need a CAP just yet just bue a Yellow Top Optima Battery and your set. The JL Audio Comes with a "built in CAP" and doesn't drawn alot of current.) i was like hmmm reallllly... so i trusted the guy he seemed to be right.. and + JL Audio is TRUE WATTAGE!! What it says is what it kicks.. not like those Other amps that say 1200watts to get your attention and then they are like 350watts RMS.
Box: Well i dont know how much you know about Car Audio and Electronics, but you might know that Each Speakers depending on the Brand/Wattage/OHMage require certain amount of Air/Space in order to get full performance out of them. That box was specially design for my Solo Barics. and it's ALOT bigger then the cheap boxes Best Buy and Circuit City sell. Not only that is 3/4" MDF Wood but they have the exact dimention. not counting that depending weather you have a Trunk or a Hatchback you need a Zeal/Ban Pass/Ported Box. I payed that much to get it profesionally done in one place and walk out the door with a smile (knowing my front mirror was gonna snap soon) :-D LoL

The boxes we sell at Best Buy suck. They're best used as chairs. They're also tiny and meant for the lower model speakers we carry.
$250 for 2 subs and a box(even if it were a POS one) is a great price though. L5s are normally close to $300 each retail, so you scored big. Granted the ones in the pics are a 2003-2004 model, but still its a great sub.
One thing to remember about Sound Advice, they're commission based. And JL Audio stuff is the most expensive stuff they have. So they're gonna try to sell you it everytime. Rockford Fosgate amps also show only the RMS wattage of their amps on them and they're garbage now. And as far as the true RMS rating goes, all amps are rated at 14.4v, and 99% of cars don't put that out. That's why you get a cap and an Optima battery, and in some cases a better alternator.
The kind of box you get has nothing to do with the kind of car you have. It's about what kind of sound you want. The airspace is determined by the sub and how you're using it. And most boxes are 3/4" MDF. The only ones that aren't area really nice ones or bad ones.
But like I said, $250 for 2 L5s and a box is an awesome deal.

i love when that happens!!!! man, sorry about the failed sale. what can i say, i love my setup too much to let it go. one thing i liked about the jl audio site is that when giving advice they dont try to sell you THEIR stuff, but rather inform you on what to look for when buying. so did your ears hurt afterwards? i remember the first time i cranked it up it felt good. when i turned it down i said out loud, "OUCH!"

The first time I listened to a Pioneer system I said ouch too. Totally different reasons though.
It's kinda funny, I've had my setup for a while now, and it's grown louder and louder. But I keep turning the volume lower and lower. Seems like it has happened to my friends too.
So what's the next item in the car you want to snap with your subs? I wanna see a headrest go flying.

Yeah like that JL Audio Amp. I loved how it sounds. The first time i cranked it up it felt like i was on airplane thats how my ears felt anyways. Now is like OUCH i cant stand it that loud sometimes it hurts my hears.
As far as whats next i dont know. I dont want anything else to break since im going to start Moding my engine now. With some help from Dan and other i should have my Alti turbo charged by the next few months - 1year.
And as far as a Head Rest flying out. I'd love you see your system to do that ;) unless you take it out your self and throw it out the window.?

My truck doesn't have headrests. It's just a flat backed bucket seat. When I get my second sub and get everything done up right I might be able to shake some belts loose on my engine though.
