has decent power, handles pretty well, gets good gas mileage and is pretty reliable? doesn't have to be brand new but shouldn't be pre-90 either. i'm thinking...
VW GTI
Acura RSX Type S
Honda Civic (slow but doesn't the low weight allow them to handle pretty well)
Nissan 240sx
i can't think of any others so i thought i'd ask you guys.

i'm thinking about it, but nothing is set in stone. i like the power of the car but i don't like the handling. i'm considering something mildly powerful that i can auto-x with because i'd like to try auto-x out some since it interests me more than drag racing does. drew, which model 06 focus goes for that low? that's not a bad price for a brand new car.

RSX is expensive. But, mine is just as fast as my SR20DET 240SX (still side mount intercooler) in the straights. Cornering is much better except for drifting of course, even when i was stock and my 240 had s-techs and kybs.
It can get into the 13s N/A with about $1k in mods like mine is. Boost applicatiosn are going to cost you more, the motor wasn't designed for that. PM me if you want to drive either of my cars.
And cut the civic out, you can get an '02 type s for less than a new or even slightly used Civic if you look hard enough. No driving experience on the GTI.
Depends on your budget, if your sub 10k or want boost... go 240. If you're budget is > 10k and you like N/A respone and don't mind the FF layout (again), go with the RSX.

Oh FWIW, my Type-S with 210+ whp turns 315ish miles per tank purely city on 11.5 gallons. I have crossed the 400 border on the highway with current mods multiple times.
You know me, I'm NOT gentle either.
injendsm
July 5th, 2006, 01:23 AM
my budget would all depend on how much i would get from the sale of the gtp; if i'm able to break even on it then the budget will be higher, i'm sure you know the flipside of that. i'm leaning more towards the rsx simply because i've liked them since before they came out and honda's are known for reliability and good gas mileage, i just have to decide what i want to do before anything.

lol, well not so much that i'd consider any car in that range, just that i wouldn't rule out the possibility of a car on the lower end of the spectrum.
and yes david, i'm suprised you weren't pitching me a VW at first, haha. if i were to get a 240, it would have to be an s14 because the s13's aren't too forgiving when getting in and out for people who are 6'6.

my reasons are....
doesnt handle near as well as my eclipse did in stock trim (well, stock and a strut bar)
automatic...it's nice for traffic but i miss having control
not the greatest gas mileage.

With all the rebates they are offering right now, you can get a Focus ZX3(or sedan if you like) SE model(power options) for around $11K.
Now, if you can get Xplan(friends and family discount) you can do around $10K.

yeah but didn't they change everything on the '06 model? i thought they didn't have any aftermarket stuff out yet
i say rsx. brandon let me drive his and i was amazed, you could shift at like 8450rpms and it felt like there was still power, i was practically drooling. nice interior too

Just wait until the RSX gets a reflash. I shift around 8800 indicated on the tach (but they are all 200-300rpm off). And the VTEC point is lowered to 4900 so there's a nice fat powerband now instead of having to shift it perfect or keeping it at redline to go fast.
And the seats are the best of any car I've owned, including the EVO.

I have the reflash, you coming out tongiht? I'll be at TJ Maxx at 9 with the RSX tonight.
BUT there's lots of other differences between my car and brandons, the 05 has a better final drive and higher lift cams. My power peaked at 8300 (limiter) before, bet it makes it al the way to 8800 now.

the new si is cheaper then an 06 type s on paper. however, the dealer is marking up base si to 22k, and you can get an type-s for 22k after negotiating. after the price is the same, the SI still has LSD. I already put an LSD in mine so it doesn't matter, but i think the cockpit of the new si is a bit funky.

yea i saw that when i looked at the 06 SI section on clubrsx. i do prefer the type s in most aspects so it'll come down to which one i'm more comfortable driving. i'm planning to test drive both when i go back home next month.
