so this thread got raped when the site went down, but heres an update. the engine is finally out of the S14 thanks to josh and jamie  im gonna do a few little maintenance things and a few little upgrades, then stick it in the S13. Im gonna put a clutch and flywheel in it, head gasket, oil pan gasket, new oil pan, header (cuz mine wont fit in the S13), and i think i saw it leaking from where the engine meets the trans, so probably a gasket there too. im gonna make a seat bracked and then thatll be in. i may have ligned up some coils too(there stance, itll be LOW :biggrin ), so its coming along pretty nicely. it shouldnt be too long now...im pretty excited

and im picking up a free RB20 tomorow just to mess around with. it has a spun bearing and it in peices, but i think itll be good to learn with. ill put it all together, then take it apart and do it again lol.

picked up the RB today. i think ill build it up a little and then boost the piss out of it  idk what im gonna do with it yet lol, but im not one to pass up free skyline parts. and itll help me learn about what goes where, too.

i was looking at a rb powered 240 a while back, but the deal never went through. have fun learning though.

its an easy puzzle when you know all the parts are for one engine. i swap out an engine in a saturn once and it took me about 2 hours trying to figure out where a bracket went only to find out it was off of the motor from the junkyard.

rotodouche
March 16th, 2008, 01:00 PM
ya, im gonna get a manual for it, but i should be able to figure it out i think. the only problem is it has a spun bearing. idk if ill be able to just replace it or if i need a whole new block or if someone can machine it or what. i wish it was an RB25, i could just buy an RB30 block, which would be rediculously cool

frank
March 16th, 2008, 01:50 PM
If its a spun bearing then it could be fixed with machine work on block and crank and a set of oversize bearings, usually.

rotodouche
March 16th, 2008, 02:29 PM
ya, thats what i was thinking. where is there a place that can do that and how much do you think it would cost?

frank
March 16th, 2008, 03:28 PM
Well first find out what machine work it will need then start calling machine shops and getting quotes. I had a quote from a place it was cheaper than any other ones i had as soon as i can find it again ill post it.

pull the crank out and check it for scoring on the journals. if it was serious damage, you'll see it on the journals.

but you might be able to get away with just replacing the bearings.
replace all of them together.

when you pull the connecting rod bearing caps off, you'll see half of the bearing on the inside of the cap; the other half should still be on the inner diameter of the connecting rod.

if i were you, i'd clean all those parts and reassemble the shortblock
to see if you're missing anything, and to learn how it all goes together.

when you put it all together in hopes of running it, you're gonna need a few precision tools, i'd go ahead and get an engine stand (it'll allow you to work on the engine while standing upright, and you won't gouge up the block.)

http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/kyrorx8/sky.jpg

im gonna get some brakes from josh from a Q45, which should stop it in a hurry. once the engine is in, im gonna start with the suspension.

the difference is like $500, and by spending the same amount in bolt ons, i get the same amount of performace. theres 350hp CA's with completely stock internals redlining at 8k. its a pretty ballin ass motor. and i know a few guys selling them for dirt cheap. if it sucks so hard, ill sell it and get an SR.

its scca road racing. most classes have no motor swaps no forced induction unless its stock. there is no street mod class in road racing. but some classes do allow you to run RWD in cars that arent RWD. ive seen GT4 cars that were Mimi coopers and integras that were RWD.

ok, thanks. its gonna be really mild for a while engine wise, just want to get it running right with a full exhaust, intake, and probably a tune on the ecu. im gonna focus on the suspension/brakes/chassis before the motor. i do need a few things welded tho, i have a rust spot in the engine bay under the battery tray that needs to be replaced and the sunroof needs to be filled in. something you could do?

yeah, if you need sheet metal i know a place to buy it cheap or i could buy some of my friends sheet thats at my house. also if you want to put in a fuel cell i made a box to hold it for my friends car that turned out really good.
