azenies (sp?) or RS2

I use Hankook RS2s, the best performance/price/longevity mix out of the ones I used so far.

They can have problems keeping up with early-throttle corner exits in my car, but you don't really have to worry about that.

azenis' or rs2's are the clear winners. I've use azenis on two of my cars and love them.

(moved to wheels and tire section)

though if money is no object - get Bridgestone RE-01R.

Dunlop Direzza Z1 is also a contender with the RE01R, Azenis, RS2.

Edgeracing.com is decent to business with, and I dunno about mounting balancing because I have friends who work at places.

I may try RS2's next time around instead of the azenis. IDK though, I like how the azenis tread pattern is known to mean business. When I see a car with azenis I know they like the twisties. :biggrin

As far as mounting shops. I haven't had the best of luck with so I'm not the guy to ask. Last tires I got mounted they drilled out the wholes in my wheels, cross threaded a lug, didn't use a torque wrench, chipped my finish, and gave me different size spacers (@12.50 each) :frown

Ouch, I never bring my car in. Just the wheels, I always hear horror stories like yours, and dont trust some slimeball in a jumpsuit.

Im liking my RS2's more but that might be because I went from a 14x6 w/ Azenis to a 15x7 RS2.

ya, ill probably just have them mount the tires and then ill put them on the car myself. so i guess RS2's it is. thanks guys

Are your wheels going to be 18's?

rotodouche
March 11th, 2008, 10:09 PM
no, 17s. an inch smaller and a fucking TON lighter. should be pretty cool. and im not losing money on it, once i sell my wheels i should make it all back

STiDriven
March 11th, 2008, 10:11 PM
how wide? Have you choses a tire size yet?

rotodouche
March 11th, 2008, 10:23 PM
225/45 is what he ran in the koni challange series, so ill probably do the same. and there 8 inches wide

STiDriven
March 11th, 2008, 10:35 PM
245-45 or 255-40 all the way man. They will look 100x meaner and grip better. Don't waist an 8" wheel like that.

edit: I forgot you decided on rs2's. not sure what sizes they come in. Still though, go wide or go home.

Yep go as wide as possible, without rubbing. Do it kyle. solid

Hankook RS2's and Azenis are both pretty good. I use RS2's on the s2000 b/c azenis aren't available for my size.

I disagree.. I've been running nitto NT555 for a long time now and it's always been one of the best priced performance tire around. I paid $415 for 4 245/45/17s, that's shipped to my house with new valve stems. Any other 4 tires that size (that weren't complete garbage) would of came to well over $500, some closer to $600.

The tires hook great in dry weather (yes, I'm aware the drag radials don't hook as well as some other brands but they're still much cheaper) and they last a pretty long time, even if you're hard on them.

They do suck in the rain though.. I slide around alot in turns. Definately not an all season tire. Alot of people hate them on my350z.com mainly for this reason, but if you're just looking for something good in the dry weather for a great price, it's a good tire.

We do live in Florida ya know, and rainy season is creeping up on us. I had a rear set of Nitto 555R's on my S-10. 275/45-17's if I remember right. On the truck they were great. I only used them for drag purposes. I remember once I launched at 3500 and no wheel spin. Just threww me in my seat and I was off. That was on the street. When I went to the track it was a different story. When I sprayed, I got wheel hop thru 3rd. My best time in the S-10 was 15.7 in the 1/4. I know it's not that impressive, but it was an S-10 Xtreme. Not bad for a small truck.

I'm gettine my Azenis tomarrow. I'm going from a 195/60-15 to 225/50-16's. I think I should feel a difference.

Are you using them properly? Especially the 555r, you have to drop the pressure and do a good burnout to make them nice and sticky. It is the best drag radial that you can buy if you plan to drive your car in the rain. Otherwise fuck it and go with the MTs.

Edit: I know guys pulling 1.5 60ft times on them so they must be doing something right. That is on a 17" wheel.

It's pretty simple.. If you have a performance tire on a RWD car in the rain, you shouldn't drive fast anyways. It's not like the second rain hits I pull over to the side of the road, you just have to be more careful.

You drive a FWD remember. I'd like to see you drive the same way in a RWD.

I was quit impressed with my azenis' the other day when it was wet out. I expected some slip, but they hooked very well. almost no wheel spin under acceleration.

I do slow down when it rains though. I have to look for the puddles in the road. My intake is about 4 inches from the pavement.

I have a short ram now, so it doesnt technically matter anymore but i try to steer clear of them anyways.

When I say puddle I mean like an inch of water or deeper. If there is that much oil something serious has happened. A wet pot on the road I don't even pay attention to. If it's spilled oil then I would slide a little and hope there are no cars next to me.

toyo ra-1 are decent, but they aren't gonna grip like the kumho or hoosiers, but they should last longer. RA-1's are used a lot for road/track racing. I believe they are the tire used in the spec miata races.
