I know a couple of people in sm that run street tires. Do you think if we round up a good amount of people we could get dave/gcac to make a class for us?
I mean there are classes with 1-2 people in them, im sure it wouldnt be that big of a deal.
Just seeing if anyone on here is interested. :biggrin

Unfortunately, I am sure that he won't. My brother has been pleading with him for a couple of years now, because my brother is hard-headed, refusing to go to R-compounds. I wish every club had street prepared, street mod, and street mod II street tire classes. Dave is quite close-minded about changing the system out there.

yeah they really follow the scca shit so if its not in there they really wont just make somthing up for our group, but a few years ago alot of people started putting stsn on their cars and it took them about a year or so to figure out that there isnt soposed to be a novis group in sts so...

When the website was changed over this thread lost a lot of stuff that had been posted. We talked about an sm st not working, but it might be feasible to try an sm-n.

hey man, i know what you are trying to do makes sense. i am a member of gcac and i can tell you that dave will not do it. you are just wasting your time. the reasoning is that those classes you are talking about are really meant for seasoned drivers modding there cars from stock. the right way to do it is, start with a stock car and gradually work your way up in classes. it is harder to drive your car the more mods you put on. it takes you a lot longer to find the limits when you are first starting because the limit of the car is much higher.
sorry guys but he will not do it.

Kinda old thread but I figure I'd give some input. SMN is a great class to have. When I first got into auto-x I had my SR swapped 240sx. I didn't have a more stock car or the money to afford one just to auto-x it once a month so I was lucky that the club up in Illinois had SMN because I would have had no chance what so ever against any of the cars in SM. Sometimes you can't start in a stock class, it would be great if you could, but you just can't help it. I know most of the fun is just being able to get out there and drive but still, competition plays a big part.

you are correct but unfortunately most people go about building a car the wrong way. it is much more difficult to drive a modded car than a stock car. so when you are first starting it is much better to start with no mods or very lightly modded car to get used to performance driving and learn what is worth the money and what is not from experienced drivers and around you.
there are so many classes already they are not going to add any more. SM is suppose to be a class that has very experienced drivers. if you have built you car first and then start to race it, you pretty much did it backwards.
oops, i already said all that.

you guys are ridiculous. you want to break up sm into like 6 different parts.
quit being cheap briton and buy racing tires and also try to make shock adjustments to get that thing to turn better. if you want setup help i will help you out.

on a side note to all you autocrossers i think i am going to quit being a member. too much bs. and others not carrying their own weight. i bust my ass every weekend to make gcac a good place to race but it doesnt seem like some of the other people care.
