for future reference, this spot BLOWS now :(. it was fun DEEP (axle deep, in some spots) sugar sand. but the heavy rains have leveled it all out and made it thick and stiff. i barely made 2" deep tread marks now....i'll try it out when its one of those torrential downpours sometime, and see if its more fun in the wet.

There are bunches of trails up there as you can see from the maps, but last I heard, there are barricades that you have to go around, and yeah its "illegal" to go there. And there are only a few ways out (or maybe just one for trucks).

Pro-Mo
September 4th, 2008, 09:45 PM
I live no less than a mile from it, and on my side there are absolutely no barricades.

Easiest way to get the would be to turn North off Pine Island road onto Chiquita and follow to the end. There are numerous trails to enter and the pan goes all the way to Charlotte County.

Negatives would be its illegal and there isnt much, if any, people out there to help if you get stuck. Ask me how I know. But Im less than a mile away if anyone needed help. Another negative is they are logging, doesnt effect the trails but its all open now.

One good thing about it not being crowded...

well i've never driven there, but i know thats a powerline trail. so it is very likely it may be blocked off, but it could also be in plain view of some houses.

1 other tihng, if you're wheeling in that area becareful of standing water. You're a stones throw from the mouth of the estero river and the gulf of mexico lol. Even Brachish water will make your ride a rust bucket.

Found a decent little area today just crusin. Not big at all, but obsticle wise, very good. 3 very good sized rock piles, a pile of concrete (no rebar, I checked), really loose sand, and a giant mount of dirt maybe 3 stories high and about 100 ft long. Not really a "spot", but a very good place to test. I was out there for about 20 minutes, came home & made some suspension adjustments, then did the rock course again.

Its off Estero Parkway & 3 Oaks.

It's getting wet again out at Sun Harvest. I went out there a few days ago. The lake is probably pretty sloppy I stayed out of that though since my truck is still messed up and I was alone. Everywhere else is basically just standing water. It hasn't really absorbed in yet so the ground is still pretty solid.

Canal Sand Pit- off of alico rd, very deep sugar sand and great fishing in the canal. sandy roads stretch from there to I75 and also back to Alico.
- 26°30'36.16"N
- 81°49'7.66"W

for those of you who havent been out to this spot in a long time or at least recently you may or may not know about the large wall of boulders put up to block off access to the canal by vehicles.

people (like myself) moved them out of the way to create enough room to drive through. however, the county has since added even more boulders and rocks that it is gonna be nearly impossible to get back there again unless there is a TON (10 or so) of man power.

we can call this spot "closed" just like nearly all the other spots.

add Okaloacoochee's mustang loop to this list though, its fun, legal but very short!
